Bodega and The Wants at DC9 on Saturday - late show.
The Wants (includes a few members of Bodega have their 1st LP due in March.  They have a new wave/dance vibe to them and I was really looking forward to seeing them.  They didn't disappoint and I am looking to the album release in March.

Bodega is a Brooklyn based band similar to Parquet Courts sound.  3 of the 5 members are women so it adds a great vibe to the band.  They were high energy and I am really enjoying their 2 album releases, the last of which was produced by one of the Parquet Courts.

Check em both out.

I loved "Flores y Tamales".  I'm a sucker for a nice Cumbia!

Was able to catch Durand Jones last Thursday. Great show. Seemed like a shorter set than RNRH, but they don't have a large catalog. My first show at Birchmere and I dug the vibe. Best personal experience I've had with venue staff in recent memory.

Wye Oak and Ohmme in Baltimore were "so good."  In fact, "Ohmme ruled." And the poster at the event was so great, that you would "wish [you] bought two."  - Joe, using my ticket and acquiring a poster for me.

Poguetry was very much fun on Saturday night.

Wondering if Lily ended up at that Frank Turner show in York?

Destroyer and Nap Eyes.
Definitely the show of the quarter, so far, for me.

Nap Eyes were great, and Ryley Walker on guitar was especially killer.
Destroyer were amazing, post-rock jazz hipster weirdness ... at one point the trumpet player started a song with at least a 5 minute solo that was channeled through more pedals and effects than Ryley Walker's guitar. The keyboard player and drummer also stood out, and Dan is a unique frontman. I had never seen Destroyer except as Dan solo, so this was a long time missing.

Clurb was packed. Stayed up front for all of the opener and most of Destroyer, but needed to move to the back to get some breathing room and so that I could get out quickly at the end.

I thought Calexico would be boring and I don’t like Iron and wine. But the pairing worked really well at the Anthem

I was bouncing around the place...the covers of Lucinda Williams, Willie Nelson and Echo and the Bunnymen (my favorite Bring on the dancing horses) were inspired ...a song they did in Spanish- Flores y tamales- was the highlight
