The Who - last night at Capital One.  Basically the same show they have been playing for a while, with the orchestras.  Roger's voice was the strongest I have heard it in the past decade.  He hit all the iconic screams and high notes; they even seemed to showcase the strength of his voice on many songs.  The last few shows I've seen he seemed to not even attempt to hit those high notes/screams.  Pete was Pete, always strong guitar playing and his voice was very strong and on point. 

Only negative was that the orchestra sometimes drowned out Pete's guitar playing.  I wish they would've had just the core band play more songs alone, as his guitar playing stood out more so during this set.

Zak Starkey provided strong Who style drumming (not Moon obviously) and the bass player was fine (not Ox obviously). 

I'd see them again if they ever come back especially if I can snag another $25 ticket.

I got a last-minute ticket last night and will echo that Daltrey's voice was insanely good...I had pretty low expectations but started seeing great reviews for this tour. It didn't disappoint...if anything, I'm shocked it was as amazing as it was. Pete and Rog are 77 and 78. I thought it was pretty phenomenal show.

still a little bummed I skipped the BE show at the anthem....but this would have sucked

Oberst never returned to the stage, and the venue refunded and emailed ticket buyers, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, Bright Eyes was unable to perform."

Well might as well pile on, right?

I'm not one to pay hundreds of dollars for any show....since to me there are enough good $30 and under shows to never bother with shows that cost hundreds. Hence, I've never seen the Who. And I'm ok with that. I'm not a completist when it comes to having to see every great band ever.

But when I checked Stubhub at 7:10 and saw that I could get a ticket for $16.45, fees lncluded, I figured, "Why not?" So I quit my planned cooking and ate a tv dinner and jumped into the car and I was in my seat five minutes before showtime.

So I've never seen The Who, so don't have any past Who shows to compare it to. I've also never seem the Beatlles of the Stones, so cant' compare to that either. I did once see the Ramones, but that was 30 years ago and I don't remember much of it. And I did once see Ray Davies solo doing some Kinks songs at a festival. Well, this was better than that.

But was it any better than Arlo Parks ($15) at Union Stage? Or Sierra Ferrell ($15) at Union Stage? Or Old 97's ($35) at Hamilton? Or Spoon ($45) at the Club? Not really? It was probably better than Haim ($21) at Anthem.

I haven't seen other Who shows, so can't compare it to other Who shows. But I bet it wasn't better than this show.

Apparently, the Who played my little (capacity 4800) hometown hockey arena in 1989 as a warmup for a tour with much larger venues on the schedule. 41 songs. I wonder how many hours that translates to? Anyway, I missed it, because I was living in London, bumping into Nick Cave at his booksigning and seeing the Cure, the Pixies, the Butthole Surfers, a bunch of great ska shows, and hanging out at the Fridge in Brixton.

I was surprised that the sound was as good as it was. That was my first arena rock show since the 1980's. Much better sound than I remember back in those days.
