I'll admit the offseason so far has been less than satisfying. But throwing money at below average players just because the rest of baseball is doing it doesn't make much sense either. I'm not a fan of Balfour anyway. He's a dick.
He's a dick who gets guys out. It's not the person for me as much as it's identifying a problem, trying to save money, then agreeing to shell out $15m, back tracking, deciding not to spend the money, and then deciding you don't have that problem any longer - despite doing nothing to fix it besides saving money.
If you could have fixed the problem from within the organization, don't you think they would have done it last season when JJ was struggling?
