Do we expect so little from our political representatives that we think they should go on vacation in the middle of a disaster affecting their constituents?

I get it, but that is mostly PR
He doesn't have any control over what happens on a state level and can make things happen
am I wrong?

I fucking hate cruz

If I was Cruz I would call Biden and together get to work...

If I was Cruz I would contact NGO’s like the Red Cross etc

But it’s not my job to know how to help constituents

It’s not just PR.. people in Texas are hurting

Sometimes I am shocked by how little people expect and how jaded they become

this mayor resigned after all the flack he got for posting this...but this is how they GQP think in TX

Now if Mark Warner, Tim Kaine or my rep Don Byer did what Cruz did, I'd be up in arms
but that Cruz did this doesn't surprise me at all
I think it's great that he's getting shamed, but don't think it's going to change anyone who actually voted for him opinion

Also sound sounds like we are going to have to work on some campaign slogans for Hutch 2024 run for VA senator!

When the going gets tough, just head to Cancun.

#CancunCruz

as always, teh internetz delivers:

Jesse Lifson @DoYouEvenLif
I am actually more shocked to see Ted Cruz masking up properly than I am seeing him flying to Cancun during a National Emergency.

Randy Rainbow @RandyRainbow
For those of you claiming Ted Cruz is not heroic, let me remind you that he flew COACH.

ted is pretty much scum of the earth....but that people care more that he went on Vaca during a crisis and don't really care that he supported the insurrection and questioned a legitimate free and fair election is kinda nuts

It's great he's getting lots of bad press, but this is stupid

If I were a Republican in Texas, I'd be more offended by this than by his January 6 related behavior.

exactly.  his base more or less supports the insurrection - the concept behind it, if not the actual riot.

but they're currently suffering from the weather so their leader heading to the beach while they tear down fences for firewood and line up for water from a public fountain is something that hits home.

more shade:

The Daily Show @TheDailyShow
HEARTBREAKING: One Texas resident had to travel over 1700 miles to find heat, water, and electricity.

Jordan Klepper @jordanklepper
The only rationale for Ted Cruz running to Cancun is that Cancun insulted his family.

They will still reelect him.  In fact, they'll shoot his name into the voter card as they scream "fuck aoc."

Texas is just not that red anymore

Texas is not Oklahoma, Kansas or even Missouri these days

The growth is happening in Houston

Will Cruz be re-elected in four years if he wants it? Probably but he doesn’t do himself any favors

The least he could do is go to a warming center and chuck paper towel rolls at the freezing hordes.

The contortions the right go to cover for their corrupt leaders is astounding

Dinesh D'Souza@DineshDSouza
What could @tedcruz  do if he were here in Texas? I’m hard-pressed to say. If he’s in Cancun, that means he’s not using up valuable resources of energy, food and water that can now be used by someone else. This is probably the best thing he could do for the state right now

although that first sentence sounds like my argument, although I didn't back it up with something insane

I guess leaving the country is probably the best thing he could do for his state and the country right now

Hutch are you @LincolnsBible?

Lincoln's Bible@LincolnsBible
There is so much a Senator can do for his/her constituents in a crisis.
- communication on shelter & aid to constituents & with 1st responders
- helping state officials  communicate & coordinate with Federal
- reaching out to local & national business leaders who can provide goods & services

The list goes on and on.

But you have to not only know what to do, you have to care.
