yes this has been posted, but this seemed the correct thread

Justin Trudeau says he'll resign as prime minister of Canada

will that make it easier for trump to annex these weak neighbors?

This thread should really have some more activity

. A notable aspect of Canada’s strategy is its focus on products from Republican-leaning “red states,” aiming to pressure Trump and his political allies. For instance, British Columbia has banned alcohol produced in red states from government-operated stores, while Ontario plans to remove American beer, wine, and spirits from its shelves

If they just joined the US we wouldn’t have any problems…..

We are not offering México this option.

Canada only has itself to blame

so who is threating Canada?...besides the US?

Trump on Canada: "I spoke to Governor Trudeau ... they don't have military protection, and you take a look at what's going on out there ... people are in danger ... they need our protection."

It’s weird but he just doesn’t get it. I mean it’s not as if it’s in our interest to have Russia or China conquer Canada.

On the other hand why can’t we take it to the next level with Canada?

The fact is we have a really close relationship and share many similarities and affinities. Clearly Trump isn’t the right messenger but I don’t see why we can’t deepen our relationship to one where Canada retains certain autonomy- its own nationhoods-while becoming a partner in our State. To me it seems like a slam dunk. And heck as part of the deal we would be os bit more like Canada: sloooowly and phased in. Who doesn’t want to be a bit more like Canada on some things?

In the beginning of history there were merely families…then tribes….then alliances between tribes which eventually turned into more…then small towns developed…bigger towns…city states…city states eventually banded together into nations which eventually joined other nations and became states which eventually joined together-at first into economic interest zones- and eventually into political unions…

The trend is so clear….eventually in a long time earth will just be one country…the US and Canada joining up is just inevitable whether in 2025 or 2050 and the whole western hemisphere will become what it should be: the United States of AMERICA

To me Trump occasionally has good ideas. Like us cutting military expenditure by 50% if China and Russia do the same.

The Gaza thing is unworkable but the other option isn’t that great either: leaving it as is. Nobody is going to pour in money to improve Gaza until Hamas is gone. So Palestinians will continue being governed by terrorists in a hellscape. Is that any solution?

And on Ukraine- Russia my position is clearly more aligned with Trump than the previous administration’s position to keep feeding an endless un winnable war. Trust me when I say if the Russians defeated Napoleon and Hitler they can defeat Ukraine. Is that “right” or “fair”? Of course not but those words are just empty words. We know what supporting Ukraine would eventually mean; US ground troops involvement. That’s how you get sucked in! “We can’t let Ukraine fall, they need us..they just can’t do it alone!”

Committing to getting out of Afghanistan was a great thing.

fine, i'll keep it short and won't even multi-quote!

that's a baseless slippery-slope fallacy.  the US position has been firm: no boots on the ground.  there is zero appetite for sending american soldiers to UA, it hasn't even been a subject of speculation let alone actual discussion - even in the biden admin.  there is a huge gulf between "let's send them equipment" and "let's send them our sons and daughters."

should ukraine collapse, any president would say "sorry, we sent you weapons, it wasn't enough, russia won, we tried."
