so, about last night... i didn't catch the 1/6 cmte live, but i did watch a bunch of new reports, pundits blathering on about the session, etc. - is it just me, or did last night not hit like the other episodes in this series?

they proved/illustrated how trump did nothing.  problem: we already knew this.  adding details about which room in the white house he did nothing in, or list all the people and government agencies he didn't call, doesn't make for compelling tv.  the dig at hawley was fun, and seeing trump stumble through the day-after speech was almost interesting.  only thing that got my attention for more than a few seconds was hearing that pence's secret service team was sending final goodbye messages to their families because they thought they might die.  like ketchup on the wall, it's an interesting detail but doesn't move the ball forward.

the narrative they wanted to create is summed up in this headline: "Trump’s behavior on Jan. 6 was worse than you thought. Much worse" but they didn't land that one with me. maybe i'm burnt out on J1-6.  maybe i expected more fireworks in the season finally.  just me?

I’ve said all along these meetings will do nothing. Charge him or don’t. This is theatre. It’s preaching to the converted.

It’s like a baseball game where some crappy batter on a crappy team steps up to the plate . . . and starts reading some idealistic journal entry he wrote in 8th grade about how baseball represents all that is good and America and values and if you build it they will come and hallowed grounds and whatever . . . . .and then he strikes out looking at 3 pitches and they lose the game.  Then some people praise him for his speech but most fans are just like wtf is this nonsense. Hit the fucking ball!

I still can’t believe people watched these hearings of their own volition.

Jan 6. rioter gets more than 7 years in prison

looks like the judge didn't buy the whole "normal tourist engaging in protected political discourse" baloney.

LOL: doug mastriano, GOP nominee for PA Gov, appeared before the J6 Cmte for less than 15 minutes, was combative, and walked out in a huff.  on the one hand the MAGAts will eat this up.  on the other, the remaining 70+% of the population will ask themselves "this loser thinks he should be governor?!?"

Doug Mastriano meets with Select Committee investigating Jan. 6, for less than 15 minutes

Trump ally Doug Mastriano’s January 6 committee appearance ends without a single question answered, source says

whist driving through 4 hours of PA 4 times in the past two weeks
saw lots of Mastriano signs and zero Schapiro signs

but this is the Pennsyltucky region of the state, so somewhat expected
(I think the birthplace of yada too?)

actually fewer Trump signs than this time last year, but definitely not zero

it's going to be a tight race

I do think Fettermen will ultimately clobber Oz and that may help Schapiro

edit: checked the polls
whoa, 538 has him up 10 points over Oz!
shaprio 8 points ahead too
this is good news to me
