I'll definitely give you Gish as the exception.  But after that the band definitely started moving away from that type of rock; you don't find anywhere near as much grunge on any of the other records.

Fair enough.  But there were plenty of people that remained interested after Siamese Dream.  I think the case could be made the Adore is the most interesting Smashing Pumpkins album.

Any further details on that? I didn't realize that D'Arcy was into la cocaina. Doesn't surprise me in the least. Has she been arrested or anything like that?

D'arcy's coke addiction was evident during the 1999 Arising! club tour, she looked awful, and that's commonly listed as the reason she left the band in October of that year. She has since been arrested for it once. She's virtually disappeared since then.

usually when they count CD sales they count the INDIVIDUAL CD, so if a double album sells 2 million copies, it gets credit for 4 million ... i'm guessing that's the case here ...

Actually you're half-right; they do count for two, but I don't believe the author counted them as such. I know I have seen MCIS' 8x and 9x platinum record awards, so I guess the real figure is 9.4 million?

Actually, I believe so. Also, there are different sales levels for boxsets, I believe.
