Spoon's website lists M-P on the 22nd and no date at all on the 23rd, so I guess they are not playing the club then.
 
 Seth, your intentions were good but for me it is a question of transportation. Merriwether is just not worth the driving for this VA resident on a weeknight.
 
 I too was crushingly disappointed by the change in venues. I don't do big venues anymore--yes, that is my problem, but it's why I didn't see Spoon at the Virgin Fest, and I was so excited to see them at the club.
 
 But when you hooked up the forum faithful with Pixies tix a few years ago, I swore my undying loyalty to the 9:30 club and you, and I'll stand by that!

 If my only option is now one non-headlining night at MPP, I will indeed feel "screwed."

 Your options are one non-headlining night (albeit full-set) at Merriwether, or getting your money back. (Or in your case since you have tickets for both nights, some combo of the two.)

I don't know the "official" answer, but if you get the ticketing fees back, it'd be the first time I've ever seen it happen. All the ticket vendors have a "if the show is cancelled, we retain our fees because we provided our service" provision stated in their user agreement.

On the other side of the coin, being just north of Baltimore, I would welcome only having to take half of that drive. That is, if I were going. Neither band do much for me so I had no plans on attending either show. Personally, I've had my fill of having to drive down to DC for almost everything so MP would be a welcome change. My only concern would be a chilly October evening outside vs a nice cozy inside show.

The Shins were great at DAR, I see no reason why they would be bad at Merriweather.
 
 Merriweather is beautiful at night in the fall.  You're allowed to wear a jacket and bring a blanket, you know.
 
 I think the promise of a full set by Spoon and the ticket swap deal are both more than enough to make up for things.  Yes, some people are understandably disappointed, but you can't please everyone all the time, and this pleases more people.  I don't think the vocal minority on this board are representative of the GP.
 
 That said, I'm still probably going to the Norva to see the Shins since we're probably getting hooked up with VIP passes.

What does a Shins show on 10/22 have to do with a Spoon show on 10/23?  Not exactly an "either/or" there...
 
 Scrapping the 10/23 show is lame beyond belief.  Will the band be too tired after playing happy hour in Columbia for a club date the next night?

as mentioned before and before that and i'm sure about 5 other times... it has to do with ticket sales. not spoon being "too tired for a club date the next night."
 
 obviously, if they play both shows, which are you going to go to? the cheaper, smaller club show... knocking out some ticket sales for the bigger, more expensive show with the shins.
