as mentioned before and before that and i'm sure about 5 other times... it has to do with ticket sales. not spoon being "too tired for a club date the next night."

obviously, if they play both shows, which are you going to go to? the cheaper, smaller club show... knocking out some ticket sales for the bigger, more expensive show with the shins. [/b]
Things were fine as they were and in my view should have been left as they were. I'm real disappointed that I can't see Spoon anymore even though I have tickets for the 23rd. It is impossible for me to get to Merriweather.

So, you win some you lose some. I'll get over it. But, I maintain that shows should not be cancelled for any other reason than illness, bereavement etc

you dont think anyone was upset that they had to choose between Spoon and the Shins? [/b]
well, previously it wasn't a choice because there were two spoon shows to choose from. [/b]
it would have been a choice for me and anyone else who either, dont want to be out 2 nights in a row, or cant afford tickets to both shows.

either way, alls i am saying is that i am sure some people are tickled pink about Spoon playing, namely mostly everyone who already bought or is planning on buying a shins ticket.

if i had to choose from driving to DC and seeing just Spoon, or driving to Columbia and seeing Spoon and the Shins, not to mention Vetiver, i would definitely be picking Merriweather.   ;)

How do I get my refund?  I didn't get the email, but I already got my ticket for the show on the 23rd in the mail.

I'm also very disappointed.  I was really really looking forward to seeing Spoon at the club.

I'll be satisfied with my GA pit ticket to see Spoon, long as they play a full set.

I've accepted the fact that they're not playing 9:30 and I'm cool.
Woof.

Sorry...'76.

By the way, it's laughable that you confuse holding a vendor accountable with "entitlement."

However...I suppose that I do feel "entitled" to satisfaction when a business markets its product to me and I respond making a purchase.

Where I come from, that's just called "living up to your end of a deal."

When you have a group of people meeting for the 10/23 show because they couldn't do the 10/22 show, it is a big deal.

I was one of the few people who had tix for both night.

Buying tickets to a show and then having it negged is fundamentally lame.  It's odd that the concept is foreign to you.

I live in DC, don't have a car and don't rate the Shins live show. I have every right to be unhappy about this.

I agree that unless they can't 'live up to their end of the deal' that they should have stuck to the original plan. That's my opinion.

I'm over it - but I imagine that among ticket holders, plenty of people were unhappy to receive that email last Friday night and with good reason in my view.

Please...he owes you nothing.  Accountable for what?  The band is still playing the area and that is thanks to one person - why don't you guys just say thank you.  Does it make any sense for him to lose money on both shows or to combine them into one show and not take a loss?  As he said, most fans actually want to see both bands anyway!  Your prescious Spoon are still playing a show in the area - be thankful.

It's not like he cancelled a sold out show and replaced it with aonther sold out show that would make him more money.  He has the best intentions with this and yes, shows a little business sense.  Maybe that's why he a respected promoter.

I lived in DC for 8 years without a car and never missed a show that I wanted to see at Merriweather or an O's game in Balitmore.  There are plenty of people who are willing to offer rides - and a lot of them are on this board.  Have you even bothered to try to find a ride?

Some of us who are not happy about this are a long way from young and feeling entitled.  Some of us work over 50 hours a week, live in the city, are over 30 years old, and need our sleep to perform our grown-up jobs. (I realize that the fact that I'm wasting a little time typing this from work throws into question my claim of a grown-up job, but bear with me...)

A club date to/from which we can walk or taxi after a full days work and still arrive home before midnight is INFINITELY preferable to having to leave work early, having to face commuter traffic to the Maryland burbs and then waiting in the parking lot after 11 at night throught the slow process of filing out and arriving home around 12:30 or so.  The former is a fun evening out hearing a top-notch band, the latter is an expensive hassle followed by a poor night's sleep, with a little good entertainment sandwiched in the middle.

Agreed this is hardly the biggest problem in the world, but it certainly a sufficiently significant factor to change from a go to a no-go decision.

Fair points. Nobody is saying that there isn't a more preferable choice between the two (9 out of ten would prefer the 9:30 club), nor is anbybody saying that choosing not to go is a bad decision.

I think most people are just over the crying about it.  I think if the Spoon lovers replaced Spoon with another band that wasn't their favorite, they would see that this switch makes sense.

It's not like Seth didn't provide folks with a good (and I would even argue fair) alternative.  To be disappointed is understandable, but to attack him on this is just silly.
