i think they beat a very mediocre football team last night.

i would call it more, underachieving.

How thoroughly does the Baltimore Sun cover the Redskins?
-

You play who's on your schedule. How many 'good' teams have lost to 'bad' teams this year? (See Giants/Browns, Colts/Jags, Pats/Chargers etc.)

Very. Check out the online edition.
-
930 and Merriweather must bring in the buck if you were able to afford buying the Ravens. What is the profit margin on those $6 Yuengling's?

they should make the playoffs

i dont really get your point. they were scheduled to play the skins, who are mediocre, and won.

He used that money to upgrade the sound system. (http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/midnight_sun/blog/2008/12/930_club_upgrades_sound.html)

Wasn't the new PA installed in september? Get with the times, Baltimore Sun reporter guy.

im not surprised by your retarded post either. go on...

Last I checked, these were the AFC North Standings...
AFC North
Pittsburgh Steelers 10-3
Baltimore Ravens 9-4
Enjoy your win over a 7-6 noncontender, but goegraphic rival. You've got rougher waters ahead.

No, he's a Federal Employee with too much time on his hands and rehashes old jokes.

Stillers/Ravens go head-to-head Sunday. We'll see what happens.

Oh, is he on the scrimmage team?
i didnt say he played
are you jealous that he thinks i fuck mothers, or do you wish you were smaller?

Well the only person that I fuck is a mother. And I would like to be 5-10 pounds lighter, to fit into my clothes better. So i'll go with the latter, Charlie.

Sounds like you want to play for pinks!
If the Ravens win, I leave your board.
If the Steelers win, you give me the keys to your club.
How 'bout it?

I fuck a mother too and she is hot. All the dads at preshool and elementary are jealous I can see it in their eyes ;D
But for the first time in my life I could stand to lose 5 or 10 pounds..or at least pick up the exercise routine.
On topic....life long skins fan. It ain't easy. For those that said they were average, I'd take that down to below average. They are way banged up now and will be lucky to win one more. No pass rush, can't rush the qb, and no big recievers. and who fucking knows about campbell. As long as Danny keeps Vinny in charge I think hard times will stay.
Well the only person that I fuck is a mother. And I would like to be 5-10 pounds lighter, to fit into my clothes better. So i'll go with the latter, Charlie.

i'm not going to argue the noncontender thing, or your spelling of geographic, but i do want to mention something about the rivalry:
in my experience, it goes in one direction. ravens fans hate the redskins. redskins fans seem mostly indifferent towards the ravens. i, for one, root for the ravens if they aren't playing the skins. how often do they play each other? once every four or five years? hardly an epic rivalry.
i had a great (and very cold) time at the game, despite the treatment i received from some ravens fans.

A lot of it has to do with JKC and Tags working together to keep a team out of Baltimore after the Irsays bolted.
That and Charm City's massive inferiority complex.

My grandfather on my mom's side was born and raised in Pittsburgh before moving to CA after the War. My dad lived there for a little while during his formative years and became a lifelong Steelers fan. After my mom was knocked up and they got married without the full support of my grandfather, the only thing my old man and grandfather had in common for the first few difficult years was the Steelers and the Pirates (thankfully, it was the early to mid 70's). There was pretty much no way the prodigal son wasn't going to be a Steelers fan as well. And while I'm also a Pirates fan, the Angels were always #1 to me. Without a football team in OC (I never believed the Rams were going to stay in OC), the Steelers were always #1 to me.

we were yelled at, taunted, and had trash thrown at us. any time i stood up and turned around, it stopped. nothing out of hand. there were straight up fights in my friend's section.
i'm a fan of the skins, but very respectful. i cheer for my team, but never put down the other team or make comments to anyone else that i don't know. the people around us were giving us a hard time for cheering on the skins when they were down. apparently, if your team isn't winning, you aren't allowed to support them, and you should just go home.
-
i talked to some stangers at fed ex when the steelers played the skins. most were cool. the fat dudes in our row body checked me when i left for the bathroom, though

when i went to the chiefs/ravens game several years ago, i was subjected to the same treatment. . .it was really fun watching them all file out after dante hall ran back a kick-off for the win. on the other hand, no nasty words or looks when i went to the chiefs/redskins games. course, all of that pales in comparison to my wife getting a beer dumped on her at a padres/phillies game in philly- i think the person was aiming for me in my padres hat, but got my wife instead. maybe he was so awe-struck by my wearing of this hat that he couldn't dare befoul it.

I'm with you on that. I expected to see more fights since the louts had all day to booze it up. Didn't see any at all.
Except for the drunk kid behind me who kept singing 'Fuck the Redskins' over and over. At least he didn't throw up on me.
Reminds me of the time at Camden Yards when some ass (Yankee fan?) kept yelling 'Cal Ripken sucks!'. You just don't do that shit, especially in someone else's place.

I?m a big skins fan and sports fan in general, but going to NFL games just isn?t that fun anymore for me. The people are just so lowbrow and don?t know how to act. The hostility at those games just blows me away everytime. The last skins/eagles game I went to a few years ago it was so out of hand it wasn?t even funny. They had to clear out my whole section for a little while cuz of this massive fight that broke out.
Went to the cowboys game a few weeks ago and it was the same old thing?.fights and just general bad vibes and hostility abound.
-
Im a big skins fan and sports fan in general, but going to NFL games just isnt that fun anymore for me.
I've been to one NFL game since seeing the Steelers in LA in the early 90's when I watched the Raider fans kill a Steeler fan (literally, by the way). The only thing that got me back was the promise of posh treatment and all access to make up for not letting me raise the nets for PATs and field goals (damn unions). It was a good time, but obviously a rare experience so these days I'm more than happy to sit on my couch and watch the games. All of them of course.
-
as long as i live here and the skins stay in landover, i cant see a scenario of me going to an nfl game unless they play the steelers. maybe if i somehow get a dream deal at heinz field but i doubt it
-
They play in Baltimore every year. Guaranteed.
-
i dont feel like getting stabbed, thanks
-
It makes me happy to see that Seth is a Ravens fan. oh hell yeah!
-
tonight i will be in my Bruins garb at the Caps game.
I hope i dont get beer thrown on me as I will be on the glass directly behind the Bruins bench. I fear that if they had poor aim they might go over me head and get Chara he may go Tie Domi on them and have to climb over me to get to em.
No no, Capitals fans are pretty chill, though, now that they are playing well, all bets are off.
-
I took my family to a Ravens game at Heinz Field a few years a go, and we were treated so poorly that my reaction was I'll never do that to a visiting fan
do unto others etc
although I am sure some of the fans I didn't bother Sunday night were ready to be complete assholes had the Skins done better...they were just warming up to be that after that opening drive first down
but my best revenge was a fella named ED REED
he shut them way the fuck up
-
i dont feel like getting stabbed, thanks
Yeah, that happens all the time.
-

cmon i was being hyperbolic
if theyre throwing garbage at thatguy i can imagine that my experience as a mere mortal would not be worth it. i mean i might as well go to pittsburgh if i'm going all the way to balmer (or landover for that matter). really, i only went to one game maybe every other year when i lived in pittsburgh, i just like watching games at home where i can pee without missing half a quarter
i would never talk shit even to opposing fans (though the only time i'm ever a home fan is during wizards games), i have heard the heinz field is particularly bad for opposing fans

I wore a Chelios (hawks) jersey to a Sharks game and rarely wear opposing jerseys these days after that experience. Some guy (who was beyond drunk) decided that he wanted to take a swing at me after the game. My friend (a pretty big guy) took off saying fend my own battle. Luckily some other random guy got involved and saved my ass.
I was really wondering tho if a guy would actually dare take a swing at a small chick whose only 5'1". I mean sure I was cheering when the Hawks won the game, but I couldnt believe how obnoxious it was. Its not like the Hawks even have a huge rivalry with the Sharks. I got better treatment wearing my Kings jersey at the Shark Tank.

my cousin told me once he was in a cleveland browns stadium bathroom when some 50 year old guy came up behind him, yanked the steelers ski hat off of his head, threw it in the trough and peed on it
though he loved the hat, he still though it was kind of funny

what you people don't realize is that when the Ravens lose, ticket prices go up

I wear a Red Wings sweater to road games all the time. The fact that 40% of the crowd usually turns up doing the same thing and we're up 3-0 at the end of the first usually keeps the home crowd quiet.
-
Maybe everyone will now stop with the ridiculous notion that the home team gets the calls.

Wow, 5000 people in Red Wings sweaters. What a dork scene that must be.

you know a team is beaten well when their fans start bitching about refs
even better when the coach does it

Please. The Steelers won this game because they drove 92 yards when they had to.
But that doesn't negate the fact that the NFL replay system as it is is seriously flawed.
-
i am completely unbiased and i didnt really see where the ball cleared the plane.
If i was a Ravens fan i would be seriously pissed
If i was a Steelers fan.....i'd have a mullet and be very thankful i got the call.
-
thankful? please, correct call. besides, they would have gone for it on 4th and inches against an exhausted defense
-
dont you have a mullet anyway, being a canadian
-
Close, but Pittsburgians are 4% more likely to wear a mullet than those from Toronto.
I suppose if i was from Alberta you'd have a point!
and seriously, did YOU see the ball go across? I can understand being a fan but love isnt really that blind. (if you did see this, please send me a link cause i have 10 people at my work who would love to see it!)
-
heres the best shot i could find
(http://www.ohcello.com/holmes_grab.jpeg)
the linesman said the ball broke the plane, but didnt think that holmes got 2 feet down, which he clearly did
-
Thats probably how it looked to all the drunken fans at the game too, all blurry and what not.
I dont see it, i dont care and i'll excuse myself from antagonizing in a thread i have no business being in.
But i will leave by saying there sure were a lot of police sirens after the game....way more than usual.
-
I thought it was the game of the year in the National Football League. Great to see these teams in a December game w/ meaning fighting for each first down - but yet again disappointing to see a brilliant defensive performance undone by a poor QB performance - although it was the D the had the chance to close out the game and couldn't. What the hell happened that last drive? It seemed like the D stopped attacking and got burned. Ravens just couldn't seize the game. Flacco made some nice plays but missed a bunch of opportunities that could have broke the game open.
-
i think the ravens d was tired at the end of the game. happens when your offense is 4/14 on third down
and that picture is terrible but i couldnt find anything else
-
i'm not sure how much fatigue had to do with it . . . but D played not to lose instead of to win at the end - which is not their style. Roethlisberger is one of the great clutch QBs, but Ravens took their foot off the gas leaving Roeth w/ time to find guys wide open in gaps in the zone (so it looked on tv). If they stayed aggresive and got burned (which they hadn't all day) they at least would have possibly had more time to work with at the end. When you're the challenger, you have to win the belt.
-

Yeah, clearly.

Can't argue with that. Pressure was on early in the drive, but then they seemed to be playing prevent D. Maybe because a starting LB and CB were out at that time.
-
what you people don't realize is that when the Ravens lose, ticket prices go up
-2.5 seemed like a suckers bet to me to get money from Ravens fans. 3 seemed like a push and worthy of staying away, 3.5 was clearly a Ravens pick (though I still would have lost), but -2.5 seemd like a pretty clear bet on the Steelers in my eyes. That's probably why it ended at 3 and started at 2.5.
With out that extra half point, I hope you at least teased it because you must have thought that the Ravens were going to win.
-
isappointing to see a brilliant defensive performance undone by a poor QB performance - although it was the D the had the chance to close out the game and couldn't.
Isn't that the story of the Ravens though, even in their Super Bowl year? I will say this however - as a Steelers fan, I'm nervous about the progression of Joe Flacco. He's been the best Ravens QB in over a decade, and he's only a rookie. He's going to be good and after he settles down a bit and gets used to NFL defensive schemes, the Ravens could be one solid wide out away from clinching the division in week 15 instead of losing the division.
But let's be honest - when he came out with ~40 seconds left and the camera did a close up of him after his first incompletion, did anyone really think the Ravens had a chance? That was one scared looking kid.
-
how about those Cardinals! I havent watched any football but when was the last time these guys played in a January football game????
holy mackeral. first the Rays, now the Cards! whats next?? A Canadian team winning the Stanley Cup?
-
the ruling on the field should have stood for that call - as when a play is called for review, there must be indisputable evidence to overturn the call and its pretty clear from the video that it is not indisputable.
-
we had the chance to score a zillion times, and Harbaugh kept running McLain up the middle like Billick ran Jemal enough to deservedly cost him his job
why the whole stadium can see this and not the coach always befuddles me
IT WASN'T WORKING...PASSES DID...WHAT IS SO HARD HERE
-
IT WASN'T WORKING...PASSES DID...WHAT IS SO HARD HERE
He was protecting his QB from making that one crucial mistake that would cost you the game. Playing not to lose does one thing for you - just like the prevent defense, it prevents you from winning.
I agree with you though - how 'bout a play action every now and then? Especially with a relatively mobile QB...
-
if i had a rookie qb that was 11 for 28 and i was playing a receiver down i'd pound the ball too. however when you do that, you must control the clock to help your defense, which the ravens did not do in the second half
-
The running up the middle did set up a few sweet shots down the field (first play of the second quarter on first down and another one in the middle of the fourth on 2nd - I don't remember if they were play action or not, or if there were others) which would have been huge game changing plays if Flacco delivered the ball to the open receiver instead of painfully overthowing.
So yeah, considering that run, run, run strategy is built to capitalize on the few big opportunities, and Flacco couldn't do that, it would make sense to go a different route.
The alternative may have led to more turnovers . . . but yeah, the playcalling was very Billick-esque.
-
Well, Cameron runs the offense, not Harbaugh. Running McLain worked just great against the 'Skins in the 4th quarter. Obviously the Steelers aren't the 'Skins. I don't know that passes were working. Flacco doesn't have the poise and presence yet of a guy like Ben R. It would also help if McGahee would pick off a blitzer now and then.
-
If the Steelers do their part we'll have a re-rematch....

As there are some that regard me as the rightful owner of the club, it has been suggested that I take Merriweather off your hands this time next weekend...

Surprisingly, Vegas doesn't think so either. Then again, I didn't think the Charger game was a 6 point game either.
I was thinking this week's matchup would be a 3, maybe 3.5 point spread. 5 seems way too high for teams meeting for the third time. I'm very interested to see where the spread ends up on Friday.
-
i thought everyone would be taking the ravens in this game. but they arent even ahead in the poll on the balmer sun's website. scary
-

If they play the Steelers the way they played Tennessee they have no shot.
-
why does it surprise anyone that the Steelers are favourites?
didnt they beat Baltimore twice, have a better record ANd are playing at home? Are the Ravens playing without Rolle and Suggs?
I know they played 2 close games already but from someone who doesn't watch football a ton, I would certainly think a Ravens win would be a sizeable upset.
You Steelers fans arent trying to play the underdog to cover your asses are you?
-
well, a few reasons. first, its really hard to beat a team 3 times in one season. second, the ravens were hotter coming into the playoffs, and finally espn loves ray ray and joe flacco
of course the ravens were seen as being hotter when fwp was still injured so who knows now. should be fun
-
I dont see anything that special about Joe Flacco.
Win a game, 13-10 and somehow its the QB's heroics? did he even throw for 200 yards?
-
I thought I was clear, but maybe I wasn't. I'm not at all suprised the Steelers are favored. I am surprised that they are favored by 5 points when their previous two meetings were decided by a total of 7 points. In my eyes, this is a three point spread game.
But this is Vegas and they take a lot more into consideration than the actual outcome of the game. They know the Steelers are an immensely popular team and that folks will bet on them in huge numbers. Vegas will start high, let the fans jump on and then balance the number at the end of the week - I suspect this spread will drop by Friday. Their goal, after all, is to make money and they do a great job of it.
-
they had UNC favored by 3 points against Wake last night. that couldnt have made them much money.
it made me some!
-
oh brother
-
i suppose i was being hyperbolic with the 'everyone' picking the ravens, but expected (at least) the ravens fans on this board to be confident. or the poll on the baltimore sun's site to be skewed
-
they had UNC favored by 3 points against Wake last night. that couldnt have made them much money.
it made me some!
I bet they did make a ton of money as the more popular team didn't beat the spread.
Watching ESPNs Streak for the Cash last night, UNC was the more popular pick to win (not even by a point spread) by a difference of 93.9% to Wake's 6.1%. I'm guessing that's not entirely accurate, but is at least representative that the general public probably put more money on UNC to cover 3 points against Wake, when in fact they beat the spread (and won the game). That's how Vegas wins money, and I bet they won a ton yesterday on that game and the Giants, probably not as much on the Steelers. They cleaned house last week with the Colts going down and on both Arizona games too.
-
it also proves that 94% of America bets with their head up their ass!
and i bet next you'll tell me ESPN says 90% of people think Louisville is beating Notre Dame by 9 tonight!
-
it also proves that 94% of America bets with their head up their ass!
If they didn't, Vegas wouldn't have a sportsbook.
I don't have the info on the ND-LOU Game as the game is not on the Streak for Cash, but since the game opened with Louisville a 3.5 point favorite and is now a 6.5 point favorite, I'd say the majority of America certainly thinks Lousiville is going to win, and perhaps big, otherwise Vegas doesn't move the line that far.
-
just cause Notre Dame hasnt won at Louisville in 50 years....sheesh.
ok, back to pro football, sorry.
-
First off the home team is generally -3 just for being the home team. So -5 isn't that much of a stretch, especially if you watched both teams play this past weekend.
Secondly, if you have been following the Ravens since, oh, I don't know, Day 1, you'd realize that Joe Flacco is indeed special. The Ravens have been searching for someone like him forever. Plus the fact that he he's a rookie who played his college ball at unheralded Delaware. With this defense his job has been to limit mistakes and make a play here and there. And he has done just that. Although I feel that they'll need to take the reins off him a bit more in order for them to beat Pittsburgh.

Yep - just ask Arizona...

well, i agree that his job is to not make mistakes and make a play here or there, but thats my point, is that the QB in Baltimore is as important as the QB for say, New England or Indy.
The whole game on Sat, the announcers were like "Flacco should be throwing the ball more, Flacco should be throwing ball more" but in reality, you dont want your rookie QB tossing the ball all over a Divisional Playoff game.
The key for a Ravens victory is to play just like Saturday. Run the ball, keep it close and wait for Pittsburgh to make a mistake. If Pittsburgh doesnt make a mistake, well, you wont beat them anyway. I dont think Baltimore has to outplay Pittsburgh at all. An opportunistic D like Baltimore can flip a game like Keenan Thompson flips burgers.
I would love to see Baltimore win .... guarantee there will be no homicides in the city that night.
-

i pretty much agree with this, thats pretty much every steelers game though regardless of opponent
if the ravens are successful in running the ball, keeping it close and not making mistakes thats pretty much out playing the steelers, though
-
Too bad Kerry Collins isn't Pittsburgh's QB. Or Chad Pennington, for that matter.
-

Yes, I agree, but some people have been heard saying that the Ravens won despite being outplayed.
generally, in sports, i feel that unless there was a really bad call, a completely boneheaded play by one player, or a lightning storm , the team who won outplayed the team who lost.
-
The Titans controlled the game. If not for the turnovers they probably would have one. But turnovers are part of the game, soooooo.....
I think it's fair to say the Titans lost this game more than the Ravens won it.
-
the turnovers did not happen as fate
if you saw Algee Crumpler spun like a propeller you might have noticed that 2 Ravens were the cause
I was there...the Titans outplayed them when were moving the ball...and then, as Ray sez...you hit them hard enough times, something will happen
it was brutal...they were carting folks out when the teams weren't trying to kill each other
we should've won the last 2 (our own fault)...our best hope for Pittsburgh is them thinking they have us beat already
-
i thought that RB for the Titans getting hurt was what killed them.
-
i think i posted this sentiment earlier in this thread, but the Ravens are the challenger and the Steelers are the champ, and to beat the champ you need to beat the champ. In other words, the Ravens need to make plays, b/c all things being equal they're not equal and the Steelers will win again (eg experienced winning qb, home field, NFL would love to see them in SB). That may sound like the kind of thing Dan Dierdorf or Joe Theismann would say, but the point is it will be another war, and there are going to be key plays that the Ravens will have to capitalize on to win, and if they don't, they lose again. On certain blitzes, do they get to Roethlisberger, or pressure him to make a mistake . . . or does Roethlisberger make the play? Do those occasional painstakingly set up Flacco bombs find their way into Raven/Mason hands to set up a score? Does McGahee break a long run in the second half after McClain wears down the D (if that's possible)? Is Heap healthy enough to make his presence felt?
It seems like the post Super Bowl Champion Ravens don't make the plays and have found ways to lose these games . . . whereas the Roethlisberger Steelers often win them. The Ravens have champion character guys - Ray Lewis (the heavyweight champ), Ed Reed, Derrick Mason is on fire . . . not to mention Scott, Leonhard, Neal and others (everyone else?) . . . Flacco has shown he's tough and can make great throws (but how consistently?) . . . now its time to step up take the title . . .
-
that whole post sounded more like John Madden than Joe Theissman.
-
wait, which is worse

you're right . . . the post was pretty madden-y . . . long-winded and obvious . . . but possibly true, or at least could seem true if you read it while drunk.

Mayor's new name: Steelerstahl (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs2008/news/story?id=3832512)
PITTSBURGH -- What's in a name?
If you're the mayor of Pittsburgh and your beloved Pittsburgh Steelers are playing one of their archrivals for the right to go to the Super Bowl, certainly not "Raven."
So goodbye, Luke Ravenstahl; hello, Luke Steelerstahl.
Ravenstahl -- er, Steelerstahl -- says he decided to remove "Raven" from his name just as he predicts the Steelers will remove the hated Baltimore Ravens from contention in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.
On Wednesday morning, the mayor began, but did not complete, an official name change petition, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
Civil court staff gave the petition a docket number but said they did not expect to file it, in part because they did not receive the required check for $108 to process the change, the newspaper reported.
Ravenstahl said he did not come up with the idea for the name change, according to the report. That honor, he said, belonged to callers to a local radio station's morning show, who "called in and thought it would be a good idea to change from Ravenstahl, given we are playing the hated Baltimore Ravens this weekend, to Steelerstahl.
"As soon as I heard it, I thought it was a great idea."
Ravenstahl will keep the name at least through Sunday.
Coincidentally, "stahl" is German for steel.
(so his name would be "Steeler steel"? how awesomely awesome).
-
heh, he's 28
also a fellow w&j graduate
-
That was one of the hardest hitting games I've ever seen.
Sorry Raven's fans, but you have to be happy with the season you had - surely better than you expected. Flacco will get better and those future games will be incredible to watch.
-
very happy about the season...had a blast
everyone's ends on a loss except super bowl winner
steelers fans as rude as ever...and, after talking to some of them, they really do assume that the rest of the world acts that way in their stadiums
of course, none of them have ever been outside of Pittsburgh, so how would they no otherwise
-
certainly one of the longest games ive ever watched. steelers are just the better team, at least at this point
ravens just couldnt out tough one team all year
-
Can someone explain to me why Steelers fans feel the need to send firmwide emails with pictures of their quarterbacks and myspace bulletins trash talking everyone they know and work with regardless of whether they like the Steelers, their rivals or football in general.
I didnt get any Cardinals pictures in my email. No NY Giants emails last year, no Phillies emails back in October. In fact, I have never once received a firmwide email or myspace bulletin regarding another team ever, in my life. But I think every year I get this stuff about the Steelers. And not just at this job, my last one too.
Does this happen to anyone else or is this some crazy thing that only happens to me?

btw, thanks for getting me hooked on this fucking thing. :P

Why aren't you in my group? (http://www.930.com/forum/index.php?topic=11999.msg270696#msg270696) Venerable currently leads, with godshoeshie bringing up the rear. BTW - it works on most mobile phones too. Smackette HATES it.
If they do this through baseball season, I'm gonna win this thing.
As far as Steeler fans, there's really no defense of it, but I will say this: when they were wheeling McGahee down the tunnel and the cameras were following them, I was really worried about what the fans were going to be shouting at him. I was SHOCKED when I heard them shouting encouragement to "Willis" - about the classiest thing I've seen from Steelers fans. Of course, I probably wouldn't have noticed it in any stadium because it's the norm...
-
stupid pitt panthers. i was winning before that
of course theres no defense for abusing opposing fans, but sorry if i dont really buy a ravens fan pretending that it only happens in pittsburgh
-
I am not sure if you were referring to my post or not but anyway.
I worked at Ravens Stadium for a season and i have been to NFL games in New England, Detroit, Green Bay, Washington and Philadelphia and I will tell you that there is no difference in ANY of the behaviour of the home fans, especially towards opposing fans at their stadium.
Well, except green bay, but a) i didnt see like any Lions fans and b) it was too cold to be mean!
If you sit in the upper deck of any NFL stadium with an opposing jersey on , then you want to be messed with, pure and simple.
I just wonder why I get emails as i really have no opinion on either team here.
I will join this group now. :) I started out 0-5 for some reason...so i have some catching up to do.
-
i didnt see your post honestly, i was responding to seth
as far as your rhetorical question, steelers fans do love email. i got like 6 steelers emails from relatives last week
-
I am a Steelers fan and have been a die-hard one my entire life. If you're wondering about why you get emails from Steelers fans, my theory is that our fans are a more tight-knit group than other organizations. I'm not saying this to put us on a pedistool or disregard other proud football traditions, but anywhere you go in the country there are die-hard steelers fans that band together. Also, the usual "fair-weather" fan many NFL teams encounter is hard to find with steelers fans. Steelers football is aobut tradition...whether it be with their power-football style of play, their family ownership, or their dedication to keeping coaches for many years. With Flacco at the helm for the Ravens I think we can all look forward to many, many great years to come of this unbelievable rivalry. As for Num Yummy being "SHOCKED" that Steelers fans shouted words of encouragement to an injured McGahee...get real. Regardless of the rivalry, the only thing anyone should be shocked about is if you find the majority of fans that don't shout words of encouragement at a player with a serious injury. As for Steelers fans being rude to opposing fans in Heinz field during the AFC championship game agains the Ravens...what do you expect? This is football. Those are true football fans...and trash talking opposing fans in your house is part of the game, there's absolutely no reason to take it to heart. I was at the divisional game and yelled to some Chargers fans "I'm Ron Burgandy...Go fuck yourself san diego" and they responded "that means a whales vagina" and we all had a good laugh. I've been to tons of maryland football games, penn state games, and ive been to multiple stadiums and thats just the way it goes...no need to consider it rude because if it was a Tuesday and you were wearing a sweater, i doubt anyone is gonna talk shit to you b/c of your football team...sunday at the stadium is a different story though.
well thats my rant...GO STEELERS!
-
firstly bigDT , that was not me who was shocked about fans shouting encouraging words to MaGahee, it was Seth.
Second of all, please, anyone could write that post about their favourite team.
-
it was smackie
-
Don't mind me, just passing through....

How much crack does a 14 year old have to use to come up with the name "Ladarius" for her kid?
P.S. Whatever happened to BigDT?
-
Ah yeah, Ravens!!!! ;D
We're peaking at the exact right time. Flacco had a career day and the offense is finally showing signs of life.
Besides the turnovers, I think the most impressive thing was how the Ravens were able to completely shut down the rushing game in the 2nd half.
Can't wait for next week: Ravens-Steelers games are always epic.

ladarius is persian in origin and means "maintain well; possess and good".

Hey numbnuts....it's Lardarius. Go Ravens, beat Pissburgh!!

Hey fan of Lardass, it's PITTSburgh.but you are indeed correct about his name.
With walkonby's explanation, I was actually thinking it was kind of a cool name. But thanks for reinforcing my initial point. Lardarius: What happens when Hootie goes on an eating binge.
I don't watch much football, but everytime I watch I come away thinking that they really need to institute a hair length rule.

seriously, james?
or are you just doing your classic trolling special, where you hide behind someone else's comment (left on another message board, etc) and then throw your hands in the air when taken to task?
-
You're saying that "Lardarius" is not a totally stupid name to name a kid?
To me, that name is as stupid as "Pilot Inspektor", "Apple" or "Prince Michael".

I'll be the final arbitrator in this and....my final decision is......
Yes. That's a completely asinine name for your kid. It's the 21st century disease. People who are dumb and uneducated try to use a shortcut to make them appear to be thoughtful and introspective to the outside world. That's why they use Apple products and listen to "The Arcade Fire."
At least, Lardarius isn't a sneaker brand or an infused vodka. Yet.
Although, I am trying to convince a co-worker to name her upcoming fraternal male twins "Butch Cassidy" and "Sundance Kid". And I don't think those are stupid names at all.

P.S. My backup suggestions are "Pancho" and "Lefty."

james, you should know by now that you are not allowed to make fun of black people or anything they do. you aren't even allowed to say "they" anywhere near the word black people. you can however say what you want about what white people do and what they call their children. that is because all white people are scared of black people. why do you think it is when a gang of black children attack grown white adults, nobody does anything to help? white people are even scared of black children.
-
Geez. I'm sorry. I didn't realize he was black. As I said, I don't pay close attention to football. In that case, my apologies for bringing it up.

So happy for the RAVENS!!! Wearing purple and black all week long.

the troll is strong with this one.

walkies coming to the defense of racism. i'm shocked. nice work there, beardo.
you are afraid of blacks. you are not all while people.

idiocy is unforgivable.
go ravens! pity about the eagles, but they performance was lackluster. where the hell was jackson all game??
-
sweetcell coming to the defense that everything he says is the truth . . . and everything anybody else says is false. now that is not shocking. sorry that pointing out how the world works offends you.
-
Skins fans can't throw stones in glass houses, but man, was it sweet seeing the Eagles shit the bed yesterday. Vick was absolutely horrible in the second half. I guess the league has figured out Andy Reid. How many more one-and-dones will Eagles fans take?
-
to be fair, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the iggles
-
Keep trying to convince others to use certain names for their newborns, as I'm sure you'll never have the opportunity to name your own kids, as there isn't any female in this world who would/should allow you to procreate with her (as well it should be).

That was a great game. Second half was just a total comprehensive beatdown. If the Ravens can convert over 50% 3rd downs again this weekend. . .that would be good.
Maybe Lardarious does sound a little too much like "Lard-Ass" . . .
-
Who cares about the name, the only problem with Lardarius Webb is that he has been one of the most inconsistent defensive players on the team this year. Some games he looks fantastic while others he gets constantly beat on routes.
Saturday can't come soon enough. I would say the Ravens and Steelers each have an equal chance of winning as it is in Pittsburg. However, the Ravens are not the same team they were a few weeks ago. I think they want the Superbowl more than the Steelers do. The commentators during the game were saying this is the first time Ray Lewis has showed off his Superbowl ring to his teamates since he received it. I think the Ravens view themselves as a special and complete team this post-season. I didn't get this impression in their last 2 playoff appearances. Plus, they would want nothing more than to avenge the loss to the Steelers int he 2008 AFC championship.
If the Ravens can win this game, they can win it all. Assuming the Jets lose next week, the Patriots don't scare me. In the regular season the past two years, the Patriots have barely won both games. Last year in the playoffs, the Ravens dominated the Patriots at Foxboro. I would love nothing more than to see more clips of Tom Brady crying like a baby yelling for a roughing the passer penalty on the ground after he is the victim of a fair hit.
It would be nice though if the Ravens and Jets both win so the Ravens can get a home playoff game.
-
Don't forget Lardarius is coming off a torn acl injury. He will be a legit starting CB next year, if not now.
-
I think they want the Superbowl more than the Steelers do.
hahahaha
-
What a frickin cliche that game turned out to be. Ravens play to lose in the second half despite mostly solid D, while Pittsburgh plays lockdown D and Roethlisberger converts the crucial plays. It was like Groundhog Day.
-
thought it was over at 21-7. totally forgot joe flacco was playing
-
complete self-destruction
was right up there with watching county/state give Live Nation $11 million
-
Sigh....
We could have had the AFC Championship at home! >:(
I think that was the worst Maryland sports team meltdown since the Terps Bball team against Duke 10 years ago when we blew a 12 point lead in the last minute. I mean seriously, the offense could practically not have played any worse in the 2nd half.
This one hurts, it's going to take a while to get over.
-
so hard to watch but I knew it was coming. Ravens have sucked 2nd half all season long.
-
It was best described to me as a "total bedshitting second half"...
It was incredible - decent, mediocre second half and you're through.
Seth, I'll drop that check in the mail today to take the sting off.
-
thought it was over at 21-7. totally forgot joe flacco was playing
Can we talk about this for a second, because nobody showed the damn replay of what really happened on the deep pick, and it pissed me off.
Troy Polamalu, who would have been weak side safety on the screen pass had he stayed in position, jumped the play and ran across the field to snuff out the screen, baiting Flacco to take the shot deep where he should have had single coverage. Only he didn't, because Clark could stay deep with Troy taking out the screen. The single coverage was actually on the opposite side where Polamalu left the DB on his own, only Flacco never noticed (mostly because no other safety on the planet would do what Troy did).
Flacco's next play he threw a check down ball into the ground prematurely (obviously confused) so I sent a text to a few Steeler fans:
"Flacco is rattled."
He fumbled the next snap.
They talked about the bad pass, which it was, and Clark's pick, but Polamalu made that play and the announcers never picked up on it.
And yes, I was a deep safety when I played football which is why I'm so in awe of that play. My coach would have benched me forever if I had done that.
-
haha, i couldnt even form texts i was in such a daze
the pass was floated too. even single coverage gets a jump ball at best
-
couple of other thoughts on that pick. ravens' prior pass plays in the second half went sack, sack, knockdown/incompletion. the pass game was in shambles at that point, not necessarily flacco's fault since the o-line was getting smoked by a fired up steelers d. also, it was just an insanely terrible playcall and execution. the ravens of the past few years could be expected to set up a play action bomb like that with a single receiver going long after like 20 consecutive runs, or at least repeated runs on first down (with the throw expected to harmlessly sail over the receivers head rather than sail over receiver's head into the waiting arms of a safety) . . .but the ravens weren't even consistently running on first down . . .the play action wasn't properly set up . . . then flacco fake handoff was weak further not fooling anyone (LBs bit for about a nanosecond then booked into coverage) . . .heap was the only receiver going long . . . flacco was watching him the whole play . . .the throw sucked . . . heap was totally bracketed. and why are they even trying this sh*t at that point instead of focusing on working the ball to boldin, housh and mason and heap on shorter routes? it was all just ridiculous.
-
what i don't get is why the ravens insisted on running the ball on first down..running it right down the middle.. no creativity.. they got stuffed over and over and over again.. why do that?
