I'm rooting for Columbus, because it's their first time ever in the playoffs, and it's Columbus! They don't have any other teams!
I won't try to pick series length - it's tough enough to pick the winner.
Boston
Washington
Carolina
Pittsburgh
San Jose
Detroit
Vancouver
Chicago
Frozen Four was awesome. I should have though to check here if anyone wanted tickets. We had an extra pair. The atmosphere was incredible. We have friends who work in college hockey so we got invited to some of the parties, which were a lot of fun too. We've already bought our tickets for next year at Ford Field (you were pretty much guaranteed tickets if you placed your order before the March deadline).
I still don't think the FF is anything close to the IIHF WJCs but it's still incredible fun and insanity.

The bean pot might be a cool thing to see as well. I damn near drove to DC for the Championship game and just hung out until people out side were dumping tickets. It always happens but I was beat from hitting a show the night before and not getting home until after 4:00 AM.It was easy to get tickets. There were lots of people selling out front before the game. 400 level could be bought for below face value.
how 'bout them devils?
how 'bout them devils?
how 'bout them rangers!
I have decided that I like the Capitals less than the Yankees.
didnt you have season tickets at one point?
i do think its kind of funny how caps fans seemed to cry about all the hype that crosby got, but now its all ovie talk all the time
damn bruins.
San Jose doubles up an opponent in shots, runs into a hot goalie, and Thornton and other "stars" come up minuscule in a loss to an inferior opponent... must be playoff time.
big joe has always been tiny come springtime!I know! I think his first shot on goal was like 56 minutes into the game. Marleau is doing his disappearing act too.

I'll see you in June, Julian!Yeah, Bos/Det was my prediction too. NJ might be the biggest obstacle for either team.

Why the Sharks Will Fail Again: They Can't Beat Playoff Teams
Ironically, the NHL playoffs have always had one characteristic that keeps the Sharks from finding postseason success: It contains playoff teams. Despite impressive records, scoring titles or broken records, the Sharks have consistently come up short against playoff teams, both in the regular season and postseason. I thought that disturbing trend would change this season, more because of the law of averages than anything San Jose did during the offseason. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
The Sharks are still beating up on non-playoff teams, using the weak and weary to pad their statistics and inflate their record, but they continue to fall short against the league's best, even though they stand among them. The league still isn't allowing non-playoff teams to take part in the playoffs, putting the Sharks at a major disadvantage each spring.
Just look at the numbers. Using the current standings, the Sharks have played 20 games against playoff teams since January 1. They have only won 7 of those 20 games; a woeful 35 percent. However, in 21 games against non-playoff teams over that stretch, the Sharks have won 16 games, an impressive 76 percent.
San Jose Sharks
Playoff: 7-9-4 - 35%
Non-playoff: 16-3-2 - 76%
Of course it's natural for strong teams to have a better record against their weaker opponents, but the Sharks take it to the extreme. Comparing the Sharks to six other teams near the top of the league, you'll find that San Jose has the lowest winning percentage against playoff teams but the highest winning percentage against non-playoff teams.
Boston Bruins
Playoff: 13-7-4 - 54%
Non-playoff: 10-5-2 - 58%
Calgary Flames
Playoff: 10-8-2 - 50%
Non-playoff: 12-9 - 57%
Detroit Red Wings
Playoff: 10-7-2 - 52%
Non-playoff: 16-5-2 - 69%
New Jersey Devils
Playoff: 14-9-1 - 58%
Non-playoff: 14-5 - 73%
Vancouver Canucks
Playoff: 8-4-4 - 50%
Non-playoff: 14-7-3 - 58%
Washington Capitals
Playoff: 12-5-3 - 60%
Non-playoff: 11-7-2 - 55%
Winning Percentage vs. Playoff Teams
Washington 60%
New Jersey 58%
Boston 54%
Detroit 52%
Calgary 50%
Vancouver 50%
San Jose 35%

On April 15 the Sharks won't have Phoenix, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Dallas, Colorado or Minnesota to kick around. Instead, they'll face legitimate teams that are talented, well coached and well prepared, and winning 35 percent of the games won't take them very far. I don't mean to say that the Sharks can't win, but recent history has indicated that they won't, and the numbers continue to back up that assumption.
The Sharks held a team meeting the day after their 4-3 loss to Phoenix on March 17, and have turned things around since then, picking up points in six of their last eight games. Or have they? In fact, the Sharks are 4-0 against non-playoff teams since that meeting. Against playoff teams, they're 2-2-1. That's not great, but a 40 percent winning percentage is better than 35.
San Jose's main problem continues to be work ethic. It's easy to defeat the weak teams on skill alone, outskating and outshooting without much effort, but when the Sharks are pushed over a best-of-seven series they crack and crumble like a Ritz cracker. There might be a new bench boss calling the shots, and he might have some tricks up his sleeve to stave off another playoff collapse, but he can't put Mike Grier's heart in Joe Thornton's body, and can't prevent Patrick Marleau's offense from another second-round disappearing act.
Doug Wilson has done a phenomenal job filling holes and adding depth, covering up for the natural complacency of his elite players. However, his best need to be at their best against the league's best, and until we see it how can we believe they're capable of it? I don't care how many times Thornton proclaims that the Sharks are the best team in the league. Until he's the best player on the ice in a meaningful game that will continue to be an empty statement.
Maybe at the next general managers' meetings Doug Wilson should ask the league to implement college football's current system, ranking teams after the regular season and allowing them to play in a single championship game rather than a playoff format. That way, the Sharks would contend each season without worrying about those second-round upsets. Besides, the Sharks would have a much better chance of winning a single game rather than a best-of-seven series. I'd put it right around 35 percent.

GO RANGERS!
Pittsburghs going to win it all. :DWeren't nearly good enough to do it last season, and not nearly as good this season as last, while the real contenders have improved. So, no.
i am loving the playoffs so far. Julian, the Bruins looked Red Wing-esque last night.I watched much of that game as well. The Bruins are definitely the team I'm most afraid of. I still think if Osgood plays as well as he has so far in the playoffs and the defense in front of him plays like they have been, the Wings will beat all comers, but if the Wings slip alittle, Boston can definitely beat them.
LOL @ San Jose.
Detroit v Anaheim might be the de facto western finals. Vancouver and Chicago don't look like they could hang with either.
with any luck, Julian, Smackie and I will all be sitting in the 3-0 catbird seat by the end of the night, eh?

I'm not exactly jumping to pick the Ducks in the Streak tonight, but I am surprised that 93% of the people have picked the Sharks. Maybe they haven't been watching the same series I've been watching because the Sharks look completely baffled right now.
Also helps to have that fucking jerkoff Avery destroy his team.
I think SJ will win tonite. I don't see them going out in 4. Then, after winning game 3, they'll exhale and go back to being the Sharks and Anaheim will head back to SJ up 3-1.with any luck, Julian, Smackie and I will all be sitting in the 3-0 catbird seat by the end of the night, eh?

Aside from Varlamov looking phenominal, if the Caps keep doing what they did last night: Crashing the net, passing the puck, cleaning up shots in the goalmouth, keeping Lundquist off balance, OV playing a supporting role, the Rangers don't have a prayer.
Also helps to have that fucking jerkoff Avery destroy his team. RACK THAT. Although Erskine should have put him in a headlock and ripped his fucking dome off the moment he turned around to confront Varlamov and the puck was on the other end of the ice. It's 4-0. SACK THE FUCK UP AND RIP HIS HEAD OFF!!!!!!!
fleury was great last night
Oh how sweet it is! 3-1 Baby! 1 More to go! LETS GO RANGERS!
Someone please take a run at Lundquist, too. Dude plays without fear of anyone coming with in a hemisphere of his crease.
I'm beside myself right now.
you dont get comcast sports net?

I think you meant to say: This is why cable companies should not be allowed to own television networks.
Comcast Baltimore has MASN and Comcast Sports Net and does not black out Capitals games, nor does DirecTV.
Dish Network refuses to pay Comcast for the rights to broadcast the Capitals (and probably the Nats) outside of the DC local area (notice I didn't say mid-Atlantic region) because they think Comcast is asking too much. They're probably right, but only the customer suffers - that's why DirecTV paid up.
Speaking of cowardly performances....
Torts suspended for Game 6 (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/rangers/2009/04/25/2009-04-25_rangers_coach_john_tortorella_suspended_for_game_6_against_capitals.html)
Let me keep this in my personal memory next time someone whips out the old "Red Sox fans are such assholes" card.
Torts should have beaten that dude with a hockey stick.

The best part about ND home games is you can openly root against the Irish and not have to worry about losing your life. 2007 was the best season EVER for ND haters living in northern Indiana.
yeah, when you are quiet during an ND/Stanford game that says something, what with all those rabid Stanford fans. . .and Stanford should have won that game. The best part about ND home games is you can openly root against the Irish and not have to worry about losing your life. 2007 was the best season EVER for ND haters living in northern Indiana.
I was going to say something similar. As a Domer, I'm a much different fan this past decade than I was the previous two decades (especially the 80's).
honestly, i think the league just did the caps a favor. they don't need brashear. they needed him to change the tone of the series, which he did when they put him in there. now the caps can play the role of the infuriated, disrespected team, which was all the rangers had going for them into game 7. they can rally behind him, and all that shit, which will help lessen the pressure of "oh shit, we better not lose another game 7 at home!"Well put.

i'm having a difficult time getting any work done today! who's going game 7 tonight?!I'm trying to find a pair of reasonably priced tix....130 apiece will get you in now but that's too much for me. Hopefully prices will drop later in the day.
LET'S GO CAPS!
Wow, Brashear suspended for 6 games...one for the push during warmups and 5 for the late hit on Betts. I don't deny that a suspension was appropriate...but doesn't this seem excessive? Especially considering the hit that Avery gave to Jurcina with the butt of his stick with no penalty or discipline. I guess that's the cost of having your reputation preceed you.
The great part is that Tortorella sits Avery for a game for a lack of discipline, then the next game totally loses it, thows a water bottle into the stands and brandishes a stick at the fans.
Oh well....i think this suspension and all the whining the Rangers are doing to the league will only fire the Caps up more.

Brash is a total goon and should not be in the game. He intentionally injured a player Broke the dude's eye socket. Man could have easily been blinded. Brash can hardly skate. Looks like a tripod when he is on the ice. I am all for a physical game and all, but Brash should have been suspended for 10-20 games for his actions.
Well first we have to win tonight....

that may be, but will it fire them up for the first 5 games against Pittsburgh or New Jersey?
I have been to MSG and i quite enjoyed my experience there. I was even rooting for Boston. no one was shouting homophobic comments.
Racist.
Next thing we know, you're going to say he can't swim either.

i know, right? and have people forgetten the mcsorley scandal?!? he was so traumatized by that attack that he doesn't even remember it. Brashear is a victim, and is merely perpetuating the cycle that we must all work to break! cut the man some slack, will ya?
(just looked up his wiki page - did you know brashear is supposedly an accomplished concert pianist? see, the man is GOOD for hockey!!! LOL)Racist.

well, i am just trying to wrap my head around the awesomeness that i watched Verizon Center over the weekend....but i'll go first.
I dont like to pick series length really but i'll try
Boston wins in 5
Washington wins in 7
Carolina wins in 7
Pittsburgh wins in 6
San Jose wins in 7
Detroit wins in 5
Vancouver wins in 6
Chicago sweeps Calgary (i have to pick one sweep, right?)
Excuse my ignorance but what does the (JIP) mean?
I made it to the game last night...It was completely insane. Definately the loudest sporting event I've ever been to...a complete blast.
i like this for the pens as a match up, but hate it because now i have to hear people that dont watch hockey talk for 2 weeks. even if/when the pens win, they'll just go back to mumbling about being horny for zorny or somethingahhh. . .always loved those pens/caps series. . .i had a friend that was convinced that the pens won or lost towards the end of the season solely so that the pens would play the caps in the first round. . .
thanks Versus
when do tickets go on sale
thanks Versus
No kidding. Thank god I don't have to listen to those f'in homers on CSN-Bay Area any longer.
and a quick word from those not in the playoffs: The NHL has loaned an unknown amount of money to the Phoenix Coyotes for payroll and rent payments (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4112784)The bigger issue is rumours coming from venue ownership that the NHL has day-to-day control of the franchise, and did at the trade deadline. Did they approve taking a bunch of junk salary and shopping Jokinen to Canada? Very big ramifications.
the nbc/versus deal is the problem. dead horse i know, but youd think a second rate network would at least broadcast more games than they do
Can anyone shed any light on this stuff?
Thus the popular teams (NY Rangers, Montreal, Toronto, Philly) subsidize the less popular teams...Is it just gearing up for tonite that's allowing you to leave Detroit out of this discussion? Even in the worst economy in North America they're still top 5 in revenues, I believe. And while there's no definitive way of measuring it, I'd say the number of Wings fans at road games helps small market economys alot more than most franchises.
...the remaining Canadian teams are outperforming their US counterparts, save for the Rangers and Philly...

(thanks for not missing that, and it was absolutely gamesmanship)I figured. Well played. Rafalski is out for tonite which makes me pretty nervous.
Wings came out looking rusty in game 1, but it was an intense game all the same. Datsyuk and Hossa gotta step it up!
I'm shocked Brown didn't get suspended. I thought two games for sure. Not sure I'd want to be in his skates today, especially if either team gets a comfortable lead in the 3rd.I knew he wouldn't get more than one if any. It looked worse than it was. I was all for the game misconduct because he did raise his shoulder and change directions and absolutely could've pulled up, but I didn't think it was worthy of multiple games after the one he got tossed from.

Oh yeah! Caps are the only team up 2-0 in the semis after 2 games! Off to Pittsburgh.
Sour grapes?Oh yeah! Caps are the only team up 2-0 in the semis after 2 games! Off to Pittsburgh.
Maybe they can keep Sidney out of the crease next game.
for me the difference is the caps are getting better play from their nonstars
I'm a Caps fan.
Ok so why so much attitude (not just from you) about all the new fans in DC? People who are just getting into hockey aren't allowed to??I'm a Caps fan.
who isnt these days.
sid's the only pen thats come to score. pretty frustrating, both games in dc were winnableOk if you want to play that game how about Kunitz's head shot on Varly right before Crosby's third goal?
i think the caps win anyway and by no means am i saying that the pens were robbed or anything like that, but if we're calling goals garbage, cooke was clearly interfered with on ovies second goal
exactly, i dont want to play that game. that was the pointWell ok then.

It only makes sense there would be lot of new hockey fans in DC. There hasn't been a likable, winning team in this city for well over a decade. The caps ownership and management are doing a brilliant job of marketing the team, and they're winning. To top it off they have one of the games biggest stars (if not THE biggest star) on the roster. So what's not to like? Why shouldn't the team have a boat load of new fans?

I dont know, i suppose if i thought you all would be here in 3 years after Ovechkin gets traded to Detroit then perhaps i wouldnt mind.
Also, just remember, whenever you are just getting into anything (even this forum) you should always expect the people who are already there to be skeptical and sometimes poke fun.
hockey newbies are no different! :) your team is up 2-0, though, so i wouldnt let it bother you much.
With all this excitement in the hometown, I hope you all aren't missing the de facto Stanley Cup Final happening out west....No, i got about SIX HOURS of this series on Sunday afternoon...

Blah, all the caps did was hold home ice and they barely did that. Won each game by one goal. Sooner or later someone will clock Ovechkin and knock a little class into him and when it happens all the DC fans will be whining and moaning while the rest of the NHL will be laughing their collective asses off. Dude has skills, no one can deny that, but he couldn't spell class if you spotted him the first five letters.

i still dont see Varlamov winning the Eastern Conference. I dont know though, cause i am blacked out of these fucking games. and i have the Hurricanes to worry about. He is the big x factor......this series is a wash in terms of stars/skaters. It will be decided by secondary scoring and goaltending.
....but don't tell me you wouldn't take him on your team in a heartbeat.

I'm not a Caps fan, but this continual grudge against OV is pretty curmudgeonly and Don Cherry-esque... and that's never how someone should want to come off.

He gets overly excited when he scores a goal. Is that the problem?
Is it classy to cross-check a goalie in the throat?
now i'm rooting for the canucks

1) No that's not it.
2) It isn't, but whether it is or not is 100% irrelevant to the fact that Alex has no class and no respect for the game.
Like I said, sooner or later someone will line him up and clock him. There is always someone bigger, faster, or stronger no mater who you are.
everyone gets their clock cleaned in hockey eventually.
look at Chaz, the big hockey expert all of a sudden!I don't claim to be any sort of big expert...just trying to get to the root of ratbastard's OV resentment.

do we really need a 7th underachieving canadian NHL team?
do we really need a 7th underachieving canadian NHL team? Are you on crack? The Canadian teams fund pretty much every team south of St. Louis through collective bargaining. Moving a team to where Balsillie wants to move it is a de facto right to print money. Shit, don't stop there -- move one of the Florida teams to Canada too and the salary cap leaguewide goes through the roof.
Seriously, 2-1 Detroit I can stomach, but anyone who thinks that Anaheim did not deserve to win a game in Detroit is clearly looking through their homer glasses.I will grant you that wiping away the ridiculous calls by the referees in game 2 and 3 don't guarantee a Wings victory in either game, but that's twice in a row they've removed the same teams chance to win. I'm not trying to discredit Anaheim, or Hiller, and I didn't say a word after the first time, but last night was almost too much to stomach. Only to then discover its the same referee crew who called much of the Stanley Cup Finals -- lauded by every major hockey outlet outside of Pittsburgh as one of the most bewilderingly lopsided referee jobs in hockey history -- and at some point I'm going to get pissed.

Shit, don't stop there -- move one of the Florida teams to Canada too and the salary cap leaguewide goes through the roof.
i meant as far as underachieving on the ice. As a Canadian, i wish half the league was back there but we dont want the Coyotes, thank you. Unless its just payback for the Nationals!OH!
barring Bettman dropping over dead
but if we're calling goals garbage, cooke was clearly interfered with on ovies second goal

Now I feel better. If those guys think it's in the top 5 "in the history of sports" then I know its not as bad as you're making it out to be. There couldn't be two guys who have made a larger TV career by over-dramatizing and embracing sensationalism on the planet.I agree with their penchant for over-exaggeration. I was more amazed it was the lead story, since I have never seen any hockey story (including teams winning the Cup) ever lead the show in its 7+ years.

The panic on the streets of Hockeytown looks to be spreading to Beantown. Watch out, Swine Flu!
Yeah, but I don't think either of us want to lose the next game or we'll get really difficult to live with. The panic on the streets of Hockeytown looks to be spreading to Beantown. Watch out, Swine Flu!
its ok, we're both the higher seed, still just need to steal one road game and hold at home....
Penalty minutes: Caps - 12:51, Pens - 2:38 .... No more whining from the 'burgh.
Yeah, but I don't think either of us want to lose the next game or we'll get really difficult to live with.
a good way to take fewer penalties is to not get outplayed
I can't speak for Sonick, but I'm an absolute delight most of the time.Yeah, but I don't think either of us want to lose the next game or we'll get really difficult to live with."even more difficult".
hahaha...caps have combated supposed whining from the pens...by whining. priceless

I just wish Alex would learn some class and respect for the game he is so skilled at.

I asked him the same thing the other day when has said OV had no class and no respect for the game.I just wish Alex would learn some class and respect for the game he is so skilled at.
how is OV "classless"? i don't get it, sounds like an empty insult.
he lacks "airness" too, fyi :)
FYI - the NHL Network is picking up Sunday's Anaheim-Detroit game, which, until this announcement, was only going to be available in SoCal and the Detroit area, or those with the Center Ice Package.Nice! I have center ice, but they really haven't shown any games in HD during the playoffs, so this is an upgrade.

Not to mention the NHL Network's HD signal is broadcast in 1080, not 720 like the Fox Regional Sports Network. It makes a huge difference in Hockey and other fast moving sports.True, although I do love my FSN Detroit announcers, so it's a fair trade-off in my opinion. But I completely agree with the benefits of 1080 coming to the forefront in hockey.
This is good for mankind.
Stay classy, Pens fans. (http://www.nbcwashington.com/sports/hockey/Ovies-Life-Threatened.html)To be fair, this is just one stupid 17 year old kid.

Do you have Comcast or DirecTV? As i've probably said before, Dish Network has had 95% of their playoff games in HD (i think the NJ games werent). Probably the only advantage with Dish, but it works out well for me since the Bruins and Vs. must have some agreement about never showing their games.
"Ovechkin was seen walking of the team's hotel Thursday afternoon and appeared to be fine."
This statement just reeks of The Onion. Was it really necessary to tell us this? As though if he had been killed or was missing you'd bury the lead all the way to paragraph 6 of the article lol.
i now have the option of watching my Bruins homer announcers in SD or the Canes announcers in HD....what to do.....
Hiller finally looked human for once. We'll see if Wisnewski or Rafalski can come back for game 5... probably neither though.
I spoke too soon! Tonight's Bruins / Canes game is only in HD for the Carolina feed, not the Boston one, so i now have the option of watching my Bruins homer announcers in SD or the Canes announcers in HD....what to do.....
arent you going to complain about the officiating or something???? oh yeah, thats not you!
Hahaha.arent you going to complain about the officiating or something???? oh yeah, thats not you!
Exactly, if I wanted to complain about the officiating as if it mattered, I'd still be a fan of the NBA.
Is Getzlaf hurt? He only played 3 minutes in the third period -- trying to save his energy since Anaheim is alittle "thinner" then Detroit when it comes to forwards, or legitimately tweaked?
Shocked at what's going on with Bos/Car.
3-2 isn't a series, and both of these teams are talented enough to come back from 3-2 down, but man, I'm glad the Wings are up 3-2 instead of down 3-2!! I can sleep easy until Tuesday.
LOVING the predicted final four with Detroit/Chicago and Carolina/Pittsburgh.

yet in the same article: "it's worth noting that Ovechkin has no history of being a dirty player. This is an exception to the rule."
i completely agree that it was a reckless hit and certainly no accident. ovie is lucky he got away as lightly as he did.
i'm just not sure this incident proves the case of his "classlessness", that's all.
now why would Carolina / Pittsburgh be betting than Boston / Pittsburgh????If you're asking why I'd prefer Carolina over Boston in the ECF, it's simple: Chicago, Carolina, and Pittsburgh can't carry Detroit's jockstraps, much less win more than 1 game against them. Boston can. :)
I think this hit was way overblown, worthy of the 2 minute minor he received, but barely. I don't think he was intentionally going for the knee at all.So then exactly what is it about Alex that makes you say he has no class or respect for the game?

I think this hit was way overblown, worthy of the 2 minute minor he received, but barely. I don't think he was intentionally going for the knee at all.I concur. It looks to me like Gonchar tried to move away from the hit, but only shifted his upper body forward. I don't believe for one second that Ovechkin was trying to clip his knee.

You are out of your mind. Gonchar attempted to miss the hit. In the process he stuck his knee out. It's his own fault.

That's a new one for me. I have yet to hear any one argue that Ovechkin didn't deserve the 2 minute kneeing minor that he received. Probably because it's such an absurd argument.
6 gamesIncredible game last night...I almost had a heart attack about 5 times. Great series too. Now I just have to find my way into game 7 without breaking the bank.
5 goals by the caps tonight
4 home team wins
3 over times
2 road team wins
1 hell of a series
That punch looked pretty damn bad. The Bruins player was about dumb as a post for allowing that to happen. He started the scrum punched #8 on the Canes and then just stood there. I don't think it rises to the level of a suspension even so.
Now I just have to find my way into game 7 without breaking the bank.
Yeah, prices are about $200 right now for 400 level seats...too much for me. I got into game 7 against the Rangers for $100. I'd thought about going down to that game and seeing what I could dig up, but I didn't see a single person selling tickets. TONS of people looking though. Granted, I wasn't really looking cuz I had my seats, but there were an awful lot of people with their fingers in the air looking for seats. Now I just have to find my way into game 7 without breaking the bank.
what're your thoughts on this?
i found great seats on the upper deck red line for $100 each for game 7 of the rangers series... craigslist is looking like it might take double that to get similar seats
i'm thinking about just going down to the arena and scalping the night of
FSN Pittsburgh earned a massive 21.38 rating for Saturday's Game 5, the highest-rated NHL game on any FSN regional sports network. Versus recorded a 1.2 rating during its national telecast of Game 2, making that the highest-rated and most-watched second-round game on cable since 2002.nhl stoked
anyone have any comments on the Scott Walker sucker punch now that we're talking dirty plays?
Surely Lucic or Brashear would be suspended. Is this me being a Homer or what?

I predict that whoever wins the next game will win the series! (My tribute to John Madden)
That's my prediction.That's not a prediction. That's expert analysis.
They just showed the video again of the Walker haymaker at Ward and I just realized that Ward still had his gloves on. You don't punch a man with his gloves on. Chicken shit - he shouldn't be out there.
And with that, I'm going to go lock myself up in my room and wait for game 6.
With a 6 pack.
And maybe a bottle of whiskey.
thanks for the suggestions. that pens meetup is conveniently located since i'll be on the east side of midtown... hopefully the pen fans won't mind me cheering for the caps :D hum, wonder if i packed any red t-shirts. GO CAPS GO!
i posted that just to be a jerk
If I had an interest in a game 7, I couldn't imagine being around anybody. I need to lock myself up for pretty much the duration of the Ducks playoffs and most certainly for a game 7.Change Ducks to Red Wings and you pretty much have me. Taylor leaves or locks herself in the bedroom.
I tend to watch most game 7's by myself, although I do invite folks to join me if the Ducks aren't playing. If the Ducks are playing though, you can forget about me being in public. I take this shit way too seriously to be around anybody who does not (and more importantly, does not know me).
I'm difficult enough to meet for the first time when my teams aren't playing, you can forget about meeting me for the first time when my teams are in the playoffs.
Detroit 2-1 (late third period goal)If its close, Anaheim will win it. If it's a rout, it's a Detroit victory.
BTW Good Luck to all you Caps fans tonight....Hope y'all have reason to celebrate tonight.
chaz: i WISH i was at verizon tonight. place will be insane. enjoy the party!
(btw, i think its amazing that so many of the boards favourite teams are in game 7's today and tomorrow...cept for xneverwherex and sweetie...who is your team anyway????)
have i bitched about the Bruins getting hosed by Versus picking the Det/Anaheim game over Boston/Carolina tonight?
I suppose if Boston wins, they'll pre-empt the eastern conference finals with the PBR! oh wait, Versus won't even do that to Crosby.
Couldn't Versus put one game on the HD channel and the other on the non-HD Versus? Many folks don't get HD.
i know its late for Caps/Pens fans but smackie and julian might want to try it.
listen to a 2Pac album in its entirety before the game tomorrow.
the last 2 times the b's were in Game 7's i did not listen to a 2Pac album, and they lost. so i figure that must be the problem.
hey, it cant hurt....i mean, its 2Pac.

i seem to remember that you complained recently about music snobs have their heads stuck up their asses when i comes to complaining about mainstream music... et tu? ;)
(edit to this, I have just seen that NESN will cover this game. so now i'm happy....i dont give two shits if its on versus, but if its not on at all, heads will roll)
(and all the logical reasons Julian laid out). This might be the first time this has ever been posted in this hallowed forum.
When I made my second round picks with some friends, I got openly mocked for picking Chicago over Vancouver, but looking back, that was the "easiest" matchup of the entire second round and the only one not to go 7 games. Who would've figured that?

Joke aside, even looking back, I can't figure out what I said.

you make me look sane. I am chillin over here. though i have a Physics class this evening from 5-8 which will probably seem like 18 hours.....somehow i feel like the Bruins/Canes game will be decided in the first period.
i'm so ADD - i totally forgot about this. luckily it's in my outlook calendar, and would have popped up that morning despite my inability to remember it.Yeah, I thought of this last night and we really have to do this up right. It'd be so funny if somehow Miss P returned from her hiatus on that day only to find us going "happy day, bitch!" She'd storm off for another year, lol.
thanks for the reminder.
Also, I think home ice is nothing in this game 7. I worry the wings will think, oh it's at home, and come out lacadasical like they did in game 6 and won't start playing until down two goals which will cause me to drink all the stuff under the sink. I have actually looked up the poison control number, no joke.
man, i hope whoever wins the east pounds the west.
Do you guys really think I'd give up the TV rights to my life that easily?Likewise. Julian's America may not work on a hipster messageboard, but it could single-handedly save HBO!

I went to work for exactly 30 minutes then announced to no one in particular that I couldn't work under these circumstances and went home.

And while we're at it, I want to publicly flog Venerable, who despite my well wishes for his team yesterday, just asked me some to defend some decision the Administration made on Economic Policy.i did apologize and wished ya good luck tonight. . .
You can fuck off sir. And now I'm openly rooting against the Pens the rest of way, despite my love for Kunitz, simply because of your lack of respect for what is really at issue today.

#1 thing the Caps need to improve upon for next season is getting physically (and especially mentally) tougher. No, I'm sorry, we were looking for "playing some defense, for once." "Playing some defense, for once." Too bad, but tell him what his consolation prize is, Johnny!

Oh wow, he showed up the next day and was classy and congratulatory and didn't tell anyone to fuck themself. Oh how different the 930 boarding experience could have been for all of you had that game went the other way.
I only question how long the Niedermayer/Pronger/Selanne talent window stays open before a complete overhaul is needed.

Detroit in 6 (I was tempted to say 5, but I think they've got a few extra bruises)Yeah, I'm expecting Chicago to take game 1, if for no other reason than Chicago didn't just play Anaheim and Detroit did. I don't think the Wings are out of gas, but I anticipate a hiccup.
for someone who's just gotten into hockey, you're already a real ass!Feel free to get your bubble pipe out too, hoser.

malkin was awesome last night. wow
Note to RatBastard: Why would a player with "no class" and "no respect for the game" be voted by his colleagues as the best in the business (by a landslide) two years running? The respect of your peers is by far the best measure of class and respect, so put that in your bubble pipe and blow on it.
Go HAWKS!
you dont have to be the classiest guy/nicest guy for other people to notice what you bring to the game.
Oh, and Chaz, your arguments wreak of desperation. If he really was the best you wouldn't have to constantly remind us. He's good, nobody doubts that. Is there room for improvement? A tremendous amount.Oh believe me I'm still watching. And you don't need to remid me our season is over we got thumped by crosby malkin and the pens...I was there. All due respect to their team. The caps have a little ways to go but they are a few pieces away from being a great team and I thing they will be in the mix for a while, which doesn't exactly happen in DC a lot lately.
But I will take the time to remind you that his season is over. Would he trade in all of these individual awards to be in the position Sidney Crosby is in? I'm not as certain...
But if this is what it takes for Caps fans to continue to participate in hockey conversations, so be it. You're missing some exciting hockey by not watching though.
taken before the playoffs ;)I know I know....... >:(
Go HAWKS!Where? Golfing?
And you people don't have to be so snobby about your hockey.

and for a newcomer, you certainly act like the game begins and ends with ovie which clearly it does not.
datsyuk scratched from the line-up for tonight. should make the game a little more interesting... CHI might have a chance of winning. maybe.Chicago's taking this one, and I said it before Datsyuk's injury was announced. Detroit will head home up 3-1, but I like Chicago in this one.
I don't know but i am officially a bad dad...my 5 year old son is still up with me ready to watch overtime.
I'm jumping on the bandwagon with my son Henry. I'm with Detroit from here on out.
Oh gimme a break. Are you saying you don't pick a team to root for in the superbowl or world series once your team has been eliminated from contention?
Well then aside from the gambling part our philosophies are not too different here. Except in the rare case of a compelling underdog, I usually root for what ever team I deem to be less evil (for whatever reasons I may have).Oh gimme a break. Are you saying you don't pick a team to root for in the superbowl or world series once your team has been eliminated from contention?
I pull for whichever team I have money riding on...and that usually changes with each game. I never bet against my teams, and I rarely bet for them on individual games (though I will at the start of the season pick them to win it all).
I do on occasion root against teams that I hate (Dallas Cowboys, NY Yankees) or players I hate (Alex Ovechkin), but rarely do I root for a team that I do not give my full faith and devotion too.
that last stop by huet, with ~20 secs to go in regulation, was certifiably ridiculous. You've got that right sprawled out on his belly a pad save like he had an overhead view....
can't wait for OT.
With all this excitement in the hometown, I hope you all aren't missing the de facto Stanley Cup Final happening out west....
wheres julian with some hyperbolic certaintyI said after the Anaheim series that it'd be Wings in 11. Guess that means Pittsburgh will last 6 games!
It'll be nice to see Chelly and the cup together once again.Barring injury or an appeal to the NHL, I don't think he'll get his name on it. He won't get into a Finals game unless there's an injury and he didn't play the requisite number of regular season games. It's amazing how much he dropped off in this last year. He was steadily going down the last few but completely hit a cliff this year. :(

Pittsburgh fans have to be pretty discouraged since there team is basically Chicago with marginally better offense and marginally worse defense and the Hawks got creamed.
Nah, all reports say Lidstrom and Ericsson are in for game 1, and Datsyuk is probable. When I called Wings in 11, I thought it'd be Chicago in 6 and the Eastern Rep in 5. Guess the Penguins get a bonus game!wings in 6? i'm a little disappointed with you. maybe nervous about the injuries?wheres julian with some hyperbolic certaintyI said after the Anaheim series that it'd be Wings in 11. Once we get to the Pittsburgh-Detroit matchup, it?s not even as close as last year?s, which wasn?t as close as a six-game series might suggest.
The Red Wings are just that much better. And nothing illustrates that point more than removing one of the Penguins? top supporting players ? veteran scorer Marian Hossa(notes) ? and adding him to the Detroit roster. How unfair is that?
But it goes much deeper.
On defense, the Wings have finally figured a way to get Jonathan Ericsson(notes) into the top six and limit minutes for Chris Chelios(notes) and Andreas Lilja(notes). Yes, Lilja is injured, but Ericsson is a better option than Lilja or Chelios, even if it has taken longer than it should for this alignment to become a reality.
Detroit?s forwards are better than a year ago, too. No one is surprised anymore when Johan Franzen(notes), Daniel Cleary(notes) or Valtteri Filppula(notes) contributes offensively. Darren Helm(notes) and Ville Leino(notes) add speed and skill that a Draper or Darren McCarty(notes) never had. Sure, we know all about the importance of the Drapers and McCartys, but there?s enough toughness throughout the lineup to make up for a couple of stalwarts.
Chris Osgood(notes) deserves better in terms of what is written and said about him. But even if he?s not regarded as an elite goaltender, he is trusted by his teammates, and that goes a long way this time of the year. He also never seems to face a barrage that could affect a goalie?s psyche. The Red Wings just don?t let that happen.
Then there are the Pens. Crosby and Malkin are eating the Eastern Conference alive again. But neither has faced an opponent that can bring it physically. Guess what? That?s what Detroit can do, even though few talk about the Red Wings in that respect. And when we say bring it physically, it?s not so much as the highlight-reel hits as how hard Detroit makes it to win pucks, keep possession and gain the important areas of ice.
The Penguins don?t have Ryan Whitney(notes), Ryan Malone(notes), Gary Roberts(notes), Jarkko Ruutu(notes), Daryl Sydor, Petr Sykora(notes), Adam Hall(notes) and Hossa. In their place are Bill Guerin(notes), Chris Kunitz(notes), Ruslan Fedotenko(notes), Matt Cooke(notes), Miroslav Satan(notes), Craig Adams(notes), Kris Letang(notes) and Mark Eaton(notes).
It can be argued which supporting cast is better, last year?s or this. It can?t be argued that there?s something to say about stability and familiarity, especially when it?s a proven winner. And while all that works in Detroit?s favor, more of the same isn?t a good thing for the NHL.
i agree, the penguins defense is better than their gaa in the playoffs suggest due to the attacking style of hockey played in the eastYeah, the fence swings both ways. Unfortunately, it's still not nearly as good as Anaheim, Detroit, San Jose, or Chicago's.
and malkin playing better being the main factorsDidn't Malkin play pretty darned well last year until, um, he ran into Detroit? I love how he conveniently got the flu then.
It'll be nice to see Chelly and the cup together once again.Barring injury or an appeal to the NHL, I don't think he'll get his name on it. He won't get into a Finals game unless there's an injury and he didn't play the requisite number of regular season games.
You only have to play in one playoff game to get your name on the Cup, doesn't have to be a Finals game.
Question: What is the criteria for a player to get his name on the Stanley Cup?
Answer: The Stanley Cup is the only trophy in pro sport that bears the names of players, coaches, management and staff from the winning teams.
Prior to 1977 only players who had completed the Stanley Cup playoffs were eligible. Today, players appearing in 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup Final game for the championship team have their names engraved on the Cup. The NHL makes exceptions for players who do not meet the standard because of injury or other extenuating circumstances.
no, he tailed off badly against philly in the ecf last yearand malkin playing better being the main factorsDidn't Malkin play pretty darned well last year until, um, he ran into Detroit? I love how he conveniently got the flu then.
The only injury that worries me for Detroit is Datsyuk. He's the only one they're saying might not be in for game 1 (except Draper who looks like he's out for the season), but he is at least skating.
And it's Cheli, not Chelly.
Next to The Victors, I think Don't Stop Believin' is becoming may 2nd favorite sports song.
Unfortunately no, but living it up huge here!
And Osgood is coming up huge. Someone give this guy the Conn Smythe already!agreed. difference in the series to a large extent.
Hey, we could win as many as 4 games this season! Maybe even 5!Unfortunately no, but living it up huge here!
just wait til football season!
agreed. difference in the series to a large extent.Yes, and no. I'd put Osgood and "depth" as 1a and 1b in the reasons the Wings are winning. Zetterberg still owning Crosby is probably #2.
They were the last team to beat the Wingsthat was 2 years ago
the best team in the East had a crappy week and isnt playing for the Cup.and somehow thats more important than osgood
you really like making unprovable statementsYes, it's unprovable, because a bracket doesn't allow for the second and third place western conference teams to play the eastern winner in a pointless bragging rights match post-finals. All sorts of anecdotal evidence does point to it like pretty much every year in recent history the western conference champion (and Stanley Cup champion) facing a much sterner test from a conference foe then from their finals opponent. It's backed up by simply watching the playoffs and using the old eye-test. I don't know alot of unbiased people who can sit here and go, "Oh yeah, Pittsburgh would've beat Anaheim this year" or "Pittsburgh would've beat Dallas last year," or "Ottawa would've beaten Detroit 2 years ago."
the best team in the East had a crappy week and isnt playing for the Cup.
Next to The Victors, I think Don't Stop Believin' is becoming may 2nd favorite sports song.
other than the line about the boy being born & raised in south detroit, i don't understand how the wings can get away with playing this song.
OK onto the finals predictions...
I'll take whoever wins four games first to win the cup!
But seriously, lets go out on a limb and say pens in 6.
the best team in the East had a crappy week and isnt playing for the Cup.
No good team in the west has a crappy week. They're that good.
I don't know alot of unbiased people
i meant as far as underachieving on the ice. As a Canadian, i wish half the league was back there but we dont want the Coyotes, thank you. Unless its just payback for the Nationals!OH!
I think Balsillie would throw so much money into the team (and have such unlimited resources if he puts it where he's talking about) that they'd turn around nicely. The Coyotes weren't bad for most of the year, and hockey futures ranks their farm system as really good (EDIT: #4 in the league). You add to that actually spending somewhere near the cap ceiling and I don't think it's a long turn around for the Winnipeg Jets Redux at all.
Also, unfortunately, I think if Canada wants more than 6 teams, the only way that's happening -- barring Bettman dropping over dead and someone completely different coming in as commissioner -- is for a terrible southern team to move up there. Might as well be this one.
I thought the Blackhawks were having a crappy week last week. But I guess I'm wrong?
A friend of mine who's mom is from Detroit hates that song, all because nobody from the southern areas of Detriot say that they're from "South Detroit."It's true. There is a southWEST Detroit, but South Detroit is pretty much a fiction. Unless you're talking about the Detroit River or Windsor, Ontario.
couldnt tell you, ive never been to 'pittsburg'
way to look petty.
Alright, my money is on the Pens tonight. Don't let me down, and don't ruin my streak of correctly betting on hockey games at 8.
where's Julian?Sobering up.
where's Julian?Sobering up.
Oh, and we're still beating the JV squad, don't fear.
three BEAUTIFUL goals in less than 6 mins... pens on fire.
Did not watch the game but just saw the box score. Was this a home ref game as much as the box score shows it to be? Four goals in the 2nd and ALL FOUR are PP (1st one was 5 sec after the man got back so basically a PP goal as well). Was that the way it really went down or did the Pens just lose control of the game aside from the fact? The Penguins completely lost composure, the Wings looked like they were under zero pressure whatsoever, and Fleury didn't make any save worth replaying. It was one of those games that once it got to 2-0 or 3-0, you knew it was over, and the rest was just the other team completely deconstructing in front of your face.
Pens completely lost composure. Took a bunch of really bad penalties. There was one questionable/bad call (an interference call where both a Pen and Wing ran into Osgood), but otherwise everything was pretty legit.Yeah, they seemed to think if they took a cheapy roughing or "physical" penalty that it'd fire their team up or give them a rallying point. and it didn't.
i'm going to go with "didnt happen"
also, theyve got to start and end the season earlier. second year in a row that i've been to a wedding during the scf
last month it was 737. thanks nhl
That was awesome. Even without a dog in the fight.
I said penguins would take it all since the begnning of this thread...... :PGeorge W. Bush was consistently wrong too.
I said penguins would take it all since the begnning of this thread...... :P
and you do realize that the pens are 5-0 all time in road game 7's
i dont think any of that means anything. you throw out everything when it comes to game 7. anything can happen in one game
you can quote any stat you want. none of them matter in a one-off game. including the one i threw outand you do realize that the pens are 5-0 all time in road game 7's
They've never played a game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final....
And since we're just throwing facts out there, it's also been 25 years since a team came back from an 0-2 defecit to win the Cup...
certainly the home team has had the superior goalie throughout this series
a lot of times the underdog team steals a couple of games with a hot goalie to force a game 7. that was my recollection of the anaheim/devils series.
you brought it up! thats how i remember the colorado/nj series, too to be faira lot of times the underdog team steals a couple of games with a hot goalie to force a game 7. that was my recollection of the anaheim/devils series.
That hurt. Bating me in to reminding the audience that New Jersey (led by former Duck Jeff Friesen) beat the then Mighty Ducks 3-0 in game 7....
As if the Bylsma highlight (lowlight) running since Tuesday wasn't enough.
i dont really see the logic in using a relatively small set of game 7's to determine your bet. especially when they didnt involve the teams currently playing.
i agree with that for the most part. the under looks like the best bet of all of those
i'll be taking that over. it is 5 1/2 right?
pens will win 4-2 including an empty netter. pittsburgh will be the city of champions!
its going to be so great that i'll be at a concert in Brooklyn during the game....
And I actually had a lot of respect for both of you as hockey fans before this....
who you seeing? ill be at summerstage, so missing the game. I havent watched much of these games since the hawks were eliminated.its going to be so great that i'll be at a concert in Brooklyn during the game....

Jules will be back by Wednesday. I guarantee it.Well it's a fine line, balancing your time between this place and La Leche League. I think he's figured it out now though...but not Celeste. Those wholistic parenting list serves are a lot to wade through.
And Rhett did leave - twice I think. Remember?

its mid july...so julian, are you ready to talk about the finals yetTry mid-July.
crazy talkYou were massively outshot and outhustled in games 1 and 2. It was the general consensus in the hockey world that the gap had grown between the two teams after games 1 and 2.
the wings outplayed the pens in exactly one game apart for goaltending. osgood plays ok in games 1 and 2 its pens in 5
"but no one outside of Pittsburgh actually thinks the Pens were one of the 5 best hockey teams last year" part makes me laugh, though
It's now or never for the Caps. What about next season?
arent they the east/west version of each otherNo, not at all. The Caps only have about 36 million committed for next season, and lose that stinker of a contract on Theodore. Admittedly, they'll need to sign 9-ish players, but they do not appear to be in any real cap trouble. Core locked up (aside from RFA Backstrom), and definitely sufficient cash to flush out the bottom rungs of their lineup.
is that the site better than nhlnumbers?I've never heard of NHLnumbers before now, but from a quick glance, I definitely like CapGeek better.

The Hawks on the other hand, have only 9 forwards, 4 d-men, and a goalie locked up for next season and are already 2 million over the cap (and that's assuming it doesn't go down like most think will). They are literally in salary cap nightmare after this season.

From everything I've seen this season, I'd put Chicago and Washington in the finals, but I just simply cannot see Niemi/Huet or Varlamov/Theodore lifting a Stanley Cup. It just doesn't compute.pretty good analysis. the caps have pretty much said they're going to come out and rely on one way hockey, but man what an offense. i dont know if anyone has as complete of a unit of skaters as chicago though
From everything I've seen this season, I'd put Chicago and Washington in the finals, but I just simply cannot see Niemi/Huet or Varlamov/Theodore lifting a Stanley Cup. It just doesn't compute.Varly was injury plagued all season, opened the season on fire, has been spotty since his injury. Theo's 20-0-3 since January....
Theo's 20-0-3 since January....He's also one of the most notorious hot-and-cold goalies of our generation. IDK, like I said, I'd pick a Chicago/Washington finals but this little nagging voice in the back of my head keeps whispering, "not with this goalies..."
big difference between regular season in the nascar division and the playoffs. just ask...jose theodoreI understand that and Im not saying hes the best goalie in the league, but he is on a hot streak and where else are we going to turn? Varly is about.... 2-3-3 in his last starts? So the number 1 team in the league just gets pushed back to square one because its playoffs? I understand it's a whole new game now but regardless Theo is going into the post-season on a pretty darn good note. Boudreau just anounced him as the starter and he's not putting him "on a short leash". We'll see how soon he can ge comfortable and establish how he'll play in this series if not the entire post-season.
I'd like to think he won't go from a volcano to Anarctica. Maybe from a volcano to.... the Equator. He has had a spotty past, but it's a whole new season right? I don't have my hopes high, being a fan of DC teams as I am. I don't know how I would react if the Caps did pull it off, I might cry.Theo's 20-0-3 since January....He's also one of the most notorious hot-and-cold goalies of our generation. IDK, like I said, I'd pick a Chicago/Washington finals but this little nagging voice in the back of my head keeps whispering, "not with this goalies..."

OK, I figure someone needs to do one of these to get our playoff speculation kicked off, so I'll be the first to sign his name and prepare to be potentially mocked all playoffs long...
WEST
San Jose over Colorado in 5
Chicago over Nashville in 6
Los Angeles over Vancouver in 7 <----- this pick makes no sense, i know
Detroit over Phoenix in 6
San Jose over LA in 6

EAST
Washington over Montreal in 4
Jersey over Philly in 6
Boston over Buffalo in 6
Pittsburgh over Ottawa in 4

Washington over Jersey in 5
The East intrigues me more then it usually does, especially when one considers all the first round underdogs have winning records against their opponent. Again, it's the playoffs, not the regular season, but I feel really unsure picking anything in the east.
I'll be happy if we make it to the Eastern ConferenceI can assure you as a completely impartial observer that the Caps will definitely make it into the Eastern Conference this season.
EDIT: My upset pick is Coyotes over the Wings. Don't ask why.Is it an upset if the lower-seeded team wins? I would've preferred San Jose or Vancouver as a Wings fan over Phoenix, tbh.
colorado in 7I would pretty much lose it if this happened. So, so awesome watching San Jose every April. It's like a little kid watching Titanic every week. You sit there and you see the giant boat on the screen, and in your irrational, youthful mind you go, "Oh, there's no way that sinks again. They'll make it this time," and then the iceberg cometh. Again.
what the hell

yes i said i agreed with julian like 5 posts ago
Considering all the dust the Wings have been kicking up at the end of the season, "the hottest team" headed into the playoffs ESPECIALLY the Wings. For me, it would be an upset. INteresting picks - but seeing that the Flyers barely got by the Rangers, Im not sure how they plan on getting past the Devils. The Rangers were sloppy at best, playing much like they did regular season. Very few shots on goal and making it all about Henrik. Im thinkign Marty will show up when he needs to.in recent years, he hasnt. all respect to the man, he's one of the greatest ever, but he tends to wear down at the end. its a total upset, sure. but the flyers can score and play ugly. tough formula for the devils. plus if they have 45 shots per game (or whatever they ended up with in that last game) they'll win in 5 or 6
Boudreau just anounced him as the starter and he's not putting him "on a short leash". We'll see how soon he can ge comfortable and establish how he'll play in this series if not the entire post-season.you know, the other thing that bugs me about picking the caps for the cup is boudreau. guy cannot keep his cool
Brodeur knows how to come through at clutch times.
Brodeur knows how to come through at clutch times.
did you watch the olympics?
I wonder if Jose Theodore knows who Tomas Plekanec is now? That was a real stinger... hopefully we keep the intensity and score like we should in the coming games.
whole game was pretty fun if you werent rooting for either team
boudreau has basically said "we dont have a goalie". guess they'll need better than average defense after all. because if you cant stop the habs from scoring, who can you stop? boston?
I can sympathize since the Wings inevitable elimination will also come from their goaltending.)
*sigh*
I hope DeathFromAbove1979 falls flat on his face. He deserves it.
I hope DeathFromAbove1979 falls flat on his face. He deserves it.I've been saying this for YEARS!! :D
we should've ended the series last friday. i'm not sure if i can bring myself to go to tomorrow night's game. too much heartache so far, and the potential for soul-crushing sadness is overwhelming. you don't have to tell me i'm a fairweather fan.... ugh. i need guidance!
Single tix for tomorrows game available on Ticketmaster right now.
from what i can tell, they give season ticket holders first crack at tickets in an attempt to limit non-fans from scooping them up.
caps sweepwhat an idiot
tons of broken ankles in DC this morning from the fans jumping off the bandwagon
yinz guys should come up to the burgh and check out some championship hockey. the caps are losers and ovechkin is a bum. great players come up big in big games. ovechkin is not great.
pens in 6.

That failed shithole of a city, take your sports team, they'll all be in the shitter like the rest of the city soon enough.
shouldnt you be talking shit on montreal
fleury has won a bunch of playoff games the last two years, but i dont know that the caps last last night because of goaltending. however the suggestion that the pens are better than the caps because of a guy older than my dad and pascal dupuis is in-fucking-sane
they lost because they were out coached
I love days like this on the board.yeah from my view the two worst things about this is 1) have to face a hot goalie in the next round and 2) the caps might finally realize they have a terrible coach
And even through all the gloating, this is the best point made thus far:they lost because they were out coached
no caps fan was telling me sid plays on a better team two weeks agoThere's a lot of assholes who buy into it, I've been saying since game 1 our defense needed to be worked on and once again, it bit us right in the ass.
Oohhhh nice picks. Id nearly copy yours on the West but Im taking LA over San Jose. Granted I detest SJ more than most teams, but Nabokov -- hahah glad hes not on the Kings.

I wouldn't be Ducks fan if I didn't bring this up. And being a decent gentleman, I did wait a few days....
at least youre not a sharks fan ;)
if you want to make excuses for ov, please cite better ones than dupuis and bill guerin is all i'm saying
isnt there a Flyers fan i can talk shit to on here?
I is a Flyers fan and have been since the mid 70s. Truth be told I was really surprised they won the 1st round series. If everyone plays like they did in round 1 they can make it a little further. We shall see.
7 one goal games. Even for somebody without a horse in the race, this has been some entertaining stuff.
yinz guys catch any championship hockey going on at the historic igloo last night??? keep the cups coming.Yeah, that 3-1 loss in the Igloo was booosssss
Even for somebody without a horse in the race, this has been some entertaining stuff.
I am actually watching less Stanley Cup Playoff action this year because of the Olympics.

great game tonight. habs were out-shot, out-maneuvered, and just generally out-played... i'm still not sure how a few bursts of heroics managed to beat the sustained onslaught that the pens brought. halak was lucky with the 4-5 shots that dinged off the posts.

maybe smackie knows of one?
What's the O/U on penalties called on the Habs in Game 7? I'd set it at 8.5. No way the NHL is letting Crosby AND Ovechkin go out to a natural market team. Especially not one from Canada.
Montreal and Boston would make an excellent EC final! i think :)When the Wings are out, I generally cheer for as many Original 6 teams as possible, so I too would like one of those vs Chicago in the finals.
i had no idea burberry made tinfoil hats

What's your next conspiracy theory, Jaguar?Yeah, crazy me, setting the O/U at 8.5 when the actual number turned out to be a paltry 8. What was I thinking? What's the O/U on penalties called on the Habs in Game 7? I'd set it at 8.5.
steelers season just started.I wondered how long it would take for a Pittsburg fan to reference the Steelers in the aftermath of that loss. 12 hours apparently.

Pittsburg and Morgantown, WV far and away are the two worst decent-sized cities in America. Detroit and Richmond, despite their faults, couldn't come anywhere near the overwhelming shitty-ness of those two.I have a long-standing tradition of spelling Pittsburg incorrectly because the few days I spent in the city made me want to get the H out of there as quickly as possible.
You live in Ricmond, right?
i've never been to detroit, but ricmond is easily the 2nd worst city i've ever been to. nothing compares to pilladelpiaPhilly at least has some nice areas. Regardless, this tangent really has nothing to do with hockey, so let's get back to that and if anyone wants they can start a "terrible places in north america" thread.
i wouldnt even count morgantown as a city
of course if you go on letsgopens.com or what have you its all "trade everyone"Yeah, Malkin, for example, is clearly in decline. We'll give you Filppula and Helm for him and your third round pick in 2012.
lots of trade malkin talk. sports fans in general make me want to bang my head against the wallRidiculous. Just look at the last three playoffs: the two years Crosby was the Pens best performer, no cup; the year Malkin was their best performer, cup. Geez.
i dont know if its quite that simple, but no way you trade a conn smythe winner coming off his worst season. buy low sell highlots of trade malkin talk. sports fans in general make me want to bang my head against the wallRidiculous.
