This is actually not really that stupid of a contract by the Phillies. What's the tax going to be in 2030? 22mil is going to be, like, 14 mil today.

The Nats offer had deferred money of up to $100m.  They would have been paying Harper until he was 60....

I think there will be a DH in the NL by the time Harper is 30.

Been hearing this since I was a kid.  Really don't think it happens unless there is a strike and it's the isuue that breaks the deadlock.  Don't think there is enough player support for that.

Harper opts not to wear 34 as a Phillie - says Halladay should be the last to wear 34.  First classy thing I've seen the kid do.

While the Giants offer was easy to walk away from (12 years, $310m) the Dodgers offer was not:

4 years, $180m.  I probably would have taken that, but Boras probably wouldn't let him.

I can't believe he passed on the Dodgers offer just to get the largest overall contract.  Plus 13 years in Philly.

Hell despite higher taxes I would have thought being in San Francisco would have ensured a much higher quality of life.....so near his hometown, spring training in Az etc

Neither can I.  Trout is likely to beat that $330m number in  2 years, hopefully sooner for Angels fans, but no one is going to touch $45m AAV for a VERY long time.
