based on what i've read, the senate
must hold a trial. so it's not DOA, but could be killed via procedure. there are no rules regarding how the trial should take place, the senate gets to make them up as they please. mitch could easily draw up a set of rules that turn the trial into a circus - rules of evidence that make it impossible for the prosecution to make its case, a timetable that takes the trial beyond november 2020, etc. mitch promised a trial, but didn't specify what sort of a trial. i certainly expect shenanigans from him.
I just don't know what the best strategy is, but I don't think getting out of the house and to the senate will make good headlines when Trump will be like "look the Congress just acquitted me, told you it was a Dem witch hunt"
by the same token, dems will be able to say "trump is clearly a criminal, we have shown your the proof in our investigation, but his sycophantic supporters in the Senate are letting him get away with it - remove them all now!"
