National Potato Day will be celebrated in Lethbridge on Aug. 19 during Whoop-Up Days at Exhibition Park. The festival includes:

• Whoop-Up Days Spirit Week Community Decorating Contest (use #WHOOPITUP for bonus points)
• A pun-friendly potato recipe contest #CouchPotatoFoodFest
• A National Potato Day drive-thru potato hut, featuring "Gourmet style signature stuffed potato (or twice baked) with a variety of topping add-ons.  The base potato is topped with sweet peas, pinto beans and lentils, neapolitan style. Czech potato farmer develops one-of-a-kind vending machine

The vending machine lets people insert coins and to buy fresh potatoes, according to Viktor Kopa?ka, the company’s director. The varieties of potatoes available at the vending machine will change over time, depending on what’s in season. Right now, the machine sells the Suzan variety of potatoes, and soon they will have Magda potatoes and also other varieties, according to what is harvested at the time on the farm.

He hopes people come to taste their potatoes and find them delicious. Most potatoes available in stores are not, in fact, grown in Czech Republic.
