so, you think that obama promising to renegotiate NAFTA was a lie? wow. . .color me shocked. . .just another broken promise. change you can believe in!
i never heard him promise to renegotiate NAFTA and furthermore, i said he wouldnt pull out of it. you're twisting again. [/b]
from the
globe and mail:
Mr. Obama agreed with Ms. Clinton's stand. ??I will make sure that we renegotiate in the same way that Senator Clinton talked about,? he said. ??I think, actually, Senator Clinton's answer on this one is right. I think we should use the hammer of a potential opt-out as leverage.
now, what did Clinton say?
??I'm confident that as president, when I say we will opt out unless we renegotiate, that we will be able to renegotiate,? Ms. Clinton said.
according to
the hill, obama reiterated his plan to renegotiate NAFTA (along with passing union card check legislation, which is terrible in its own right).
as stephen harper
noted: "Canada is the United States' No. 1 supplier of energy. We are a secure and stable supplier," he said, standing at a lecturn next to Bush and Calderon.
Canada exported some 2.4 million barrels of oil a day in 2007 to the United States, worth about $55 billion. Along with natural gas and electricity exports, Canada is the largest foreign source of energy for the American market.
"That is of critical importance to the future of the United States," said Harper.
"And if we had to look at this kind of a (renegotiation) option, I think quite frankly, you know, we would be in an even stronger position now than we were 20 years ago. And we'll be in a stronger position in the future."
more from
harper: "If any American government ever chose to make the mistake of opening [NAFTA], we would have something we would want to talk about as well."
