i'm still confused as to how making your daughter have the baby and get married to a guy that doenst want her is the right thing to do.

what would really be good is if palin's baby boy turned out to be her daughters but i'm sure they'd find a way to spin that too

I bet that Levi kid is praying that McCain does not win the election.  If he does, he will be stuck in a shotgun marriage to his babymomma for at least four years, or even eight, Republican operatives will hunt him to the end of the earth.  Bet he wishes he wrapped  his rascal!

Are you kidding?? That punk is set for life....will never have to put in a full days work and can go bang any Alaskan floosie he wants because they'll keep it swept under the rug no matter what. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

You must either have a very large cock or a very fat wallet for a Democrat to stoop to dating you.   :p

oh wait... sexist must be the new word the cult leaders want their members to repeat endlessly this week.

besides how is it sexist to compare her to a fictional character in a movie that happens to be female.  (scratches heads)
my g/f (a democrat) thought it was a low blow.  ya know..obama reminds me of (insert name of black guy running for high school office in a movie).

you seem angry again today kosmo...relax. you guys have this one in the bag. [/b]

Well, the way a social conservative would answer that question is that first off, abortion is murder, so keeping the baby is moral victory number one.  Second, the way I heard it the couple were engaged before they knew of the pregnancy (we won't get into high school engagements, yes I think they're stupid too) so who's to say he doesn't want her?  Third, by marrying before the baby is born you've averted the child being a bastard, which doesn't necessarily mean much to a lot of people in this day and age, but may mean quite a bit to certain segments of society, so moral victory number two.  Also, where has it been said that Bristol is "being made to have the baby"?  This could very well be her own decision based on her own set of morals.  The father could very easily be all for keeping the kid as well for same reasons.

For social conservatives, sex before marriage is a heck of a lot smaller a sin than either abortion or having a baby out of wedlock.  Hence why having the baby and getting hitched is going to be seen as a good example by the evangelical right.

BTW, I don't necessarily endorse any of these positions, just providing an answer to your confusion.

I used to date a girl who was a staunch Catholic conservative, so I got a fair degree of insight into that world.   She had a whole lot of Catholic girlfriends, who all were staunchly pro-life and also very much about "wait until marriage," but one by one, they got knocked up, and very shortly after, engaged.   Despite all the abstinence talk, that seems to be increasingly the normal path for young people in conservative circles -- when everyone around you is a hypocrite you're not necessarily going to notice your own hypocrisy.

Babies having babies is the norm in all Fundamentalist societies, whether it's the Taliban or the American right.

so, what is wrong with that?  it's as if the only normal reaction there would have been to get an abortion. . .why is it so hard to understand that keeping the baby and getting married is a normal reaction to them and not at all hypocritical?

The hypocritical part 1) preaching abstinence until marriage when almost nobody actually does that; and 2) refusing to teach kids about birth control as a matter of public policy.

Getting pregnant and married as a teenager is usually a pretty good guarantee of an unhappy life.   Unless you're a governor's daughter.   Life happens, but use a condom and life happens a lot less, and when you're mature enough to deal with it.   I am not judging the girl, I am judging the mom and the Republicans for holding her up as an example.

you didn't answer my question.

let me ask you this question- do you think educating kids on the evils of drug use reduces drug use?  do you think teaching kids in drivers education about aggressive driving reduces aggressive driving?  we could teach all sorts of sex education, and it would probably not make a lick of difference in teen pregnancy rates, because, as you noted, they're gonna have sex anyway.
