It's out this Saturday, let the touring begin ;D

Does anyone on this board have access to large explosive devices that could be used to render Jiffy Lube Live incapable of hosting a future Radiohead show?
-
Ah Whippy, you were caught in that debacle out there a few years ago? My wife made it through somehow. I didn't bother going.
I really hope the new album is better than 'In Rainbows'. They are a band I really loved for years, but that one really turned me off. To such a degree I almost can't get excited about this new one.
-
I wouldn't mind if they don't tour the US until the Fall so we get arenas instead of amps
-
I hear Bull Run's available...
-

just means that the roof of the verizon center will cave in just before their show.
-
Maybe Dar? ;D

The only place that should be considered for a Radiohead show in this area is Merriweather.
Think about it. Their Merriweather show was the only one in the area that was not attacked by massive deluges. In fact, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Apparently, it pleases the Weather gods by paying homage to them.
Merri + weather = Merriweather for Radiohead.
Seth, you have no choice. It is your only option. The Weather gods will be pleased and you shall be blessed.

Yes, caught in it and never got in. I was living in North Carolina for the Amnesiac tour and arbitrarily decided on going to Atlanta instead of Manassas/Bull Run to catch that tour. Very happy with that decision in retrospect. Hopefully the band understands their bad juju with Northern VA at this point and will avoid it in favor of DC/Maryland.
I'm totally with you on "In Rainbows". I know alot of people love it, but to me it felt like the first Radiohead record that brought absolutely nothing new to the table in terms of their sound/style.
-
if i hear one more person say, "my iron lung" is my favourite . . . i'll sick my cats upon them.

Having to buy Radiohead tickets on ticketfly would give me nightmares

No, I wasn't there. Was supposed to see them on the 2nd Bull Run day that was wisely cancelled. It's just that I get a kick out of observing their weather history in this area.
I still think that the Mid Atlantic tv stations should put a little Radiohead icon in the corner of their screens warning the locals of a Radiohead alert. You know, like they do for other hazardous weather warnings.
-
I walked into Bull Run right before it started raining.
Saw them at Merriweather. Loved it. Agreed that's where they should play!
-
I was at the Merriweather show - was a good 'un.
Was also at Bull Run when the sky opened up and they sent us all back out to sit in our cars. That sucked.
I like the Radiohead weather icon idea.
-
The Bristow show in 08 was the most miserable experience before and after the show. But the show itself - especially the setlist - was fucking on point.
-
unlike 98% of people at the show, our bristow'08 was pretty manageable. we left DC early and got there just as the deluge started, then partied 2+ hours in the car (visibility through the downpour: 4 to 5 feet). once inside we got better seats b/c a bunch of people didn't show up. we left during the last song, booked it to the car and were among the first people out the door. had zero probs exiting the parking lot and getting on to I-66. the real savior was that there were 5 of us in the car: they gave us primo car-pool parking about 150 feet from the gate. yes, we were lucky too - felt like we were consistently a half-step ahead of disaster.
-
Had the exact same experience as sweetcell, left early, partied in the car, free VIP parking for carpooling, etc etc. Luckily I was in the pit, had some friends in the lawn and they left early as they couldn't take it anymore. I wonder what % of people in the lawn made it all the way through the show.
-
I haven't seen Radiohead since they played the 930 club in 98, nor do I plan to. Thanks again Seth!
-
Bonnaroo lineup should be released tomorrow. Hopefully there is a leak tonight but could Radiohead be on the lineup? ;D
-
if i hear one more person say, "my iron lung" is my favourite . . . i'll sick my cats upon them.
I'm not being ironic or contrarian but...I LOVE "Pop Is Dead." I know I've said this before on this message board but it's like if Guided By Voices grew up in Oxford instead of Ohio.
Saw them at Merriweather. Loved it. Agreed that's where they should play!
I was there and they did their big MTV hit. "Creep."

-
The Radiohead-Biblical Rainstorm thing is totally played out. I hope next time Radiohead comes to DC there is something really cool - like locust. Or pestilence.
-
Anyone preorder the album yet or are we all going to be like Walky and download it when it's available? ;D
-
I think you could scam a lot of hipsters and make millions doing it.
In a couple years, make some fake website and say Radiohead is going to be releasing their new album in 48 hours. But if you pre-order RIGHT NOW you'll get a super-exclusive, limited edition boxed set with weird details ("The CD is made out of WOOD!"). Slap some quasi-social-alienation graphic design on it and charge $60. You'd be a multi-millionaire before anyone found out.
Because this morning, thousands of people pre-ordered a "newspaper album" without ONCE questioning what the hell that is.
Brian
-
brian is this online generation's . . . stewie. i did enjoy "the cd made of wood" part.
-
This is the part I loved, and you're 100% on target. What does that mean exactly? Maybe it was released after the initial press on this, but it certainly didn't stop getting everything all a tizzy, did it?

they added a stupid descriptor which will probably make sense once you see the damn thing. who the fuck cares? do you think people bought it because it's a "newspaper album", or because it's a radiohead album? duh. let's have the momma's toasters release a "newspaper album" and see how much buzz it generates.
or, alternately, are people supposed to stay away because it's a "newspaper album"? "i have no idea what it sounds like, but heard the new radiohead album is a "newspaper" album so imma gonna sit this one out."
and is it really such a mystery what "newspaper" refers to? lemme help you: "Many large sheets of artwork..." - some of the paper you get along with the vinyl is big. like a newspaper.
you haters are really grasping. haters gonna hate, fine, but could you at least make it something vaguely meaningful?
-
by the way, hipsters with no sense of history how about Jethro Tull's "Thick as a brick" as the first "newspaper" album.... Radiohead have become their own worst nightmare a MAJOR LABEL.
-
Radiohead = Irrelevanthead
The new album should be titled, "yeah, we're still around"
-
So a "newspaper album" just means the cover is a newspaper?
From Wikipedia's article on "Thick as a Brick":
The original lp-cover, which opens up as a 12-page newspaper. The original LP cover was a spoof of a twelve by sixteen inch (305 by 406 mm) multipage local newspaper with stories, competitions, adverts, etc., lampooning the parochial and amateurish local journalism that still exists in many places today, as well as certain classical album covers, and even contains a review of the album itself. The "newspaper" also includes the entire lyrics to the song, and references to the lyrics are scattered throughout the articles. The spoof newspaper had to be heavily abridged for conventional CD covers, but the 25th Anniversary Special Edition CD includes a partial facsimile; some content is missing, such as the original connect the dots activity, which featured a cartoon duck salivating at the sight of a semi-nude woman, and part of the "front page;" however, the picture was restored to its full size including the entire image of "Gerald's chum", Julia.

A FB friend posted this:
Sure, Radiohead, I find the concept of buying a box containing a parka, three 4.75" vinyl discs, an Edison cylinder, Etch-A-Sketched credits, and a dozen free-range emu eggs compelling, but will there be music? That's all I want to know: Will there be music?
-
Out a day early. The website keeps crashing though so it's hard to get an order through.
-
I'm about halfway through my first listen. It's very different, more electronic influence. Sounds like Thom has been listening to alot of Burial, Lamb, maybe even some Bjork lately.
-
Gah, where is a torrent for this already.
-
I liked Radiohead better when they played guitars.

"I got very tired of watching other people listen to the band?s post-Kid A (really post-O.K. Computer, if I?m honest) releases and nod like they were really ?getting it.? Radiohead became a kind of shortcut to rock depth, the way placing a few New Yorkers on your coffee table is a shortcut to, well, lit depth. For a few dollars (or for free, if you took them up on their offer to download 2007?s In Rainbows for as much or as little as you felt like paying), anyone could pretend to have great taste."

Maybe it was today's awesome weather, but The King of Limbs had me thinking of a nice mountain bike loop. Radiohead isn't really breaking new ground - it fits in with Kid A, Amnesiac, Thom Yorke's Eraser, In Rainbows - and its non-'songy', even by recent Radiohead standards. But like a good bike trail, it flows, its got ups and downs (and flats), its got some challenging parts and some sweet singletrack to look forward to (Lotus Flower) and there are some climbs but it ends with an enjoyable twisting downhill (Separator). Probably like a 6 mile loop, not overly taxing, and the terrain is fun and interesting and its easy to look forward to visiting again.
-
Liking the new album ;D
-
Much better than "In Rainbows", which is a relief. I'm digging it.
-
I like it, but I like In Rainbows more. However, I love In Rainbows, so liking the new album less isn't a very bad thing.

Don't agree with this at all. When I was a kid, Karma Police was big and I liked it, but never really investigated the band more than that. I was still too young when Kid A came out to really take notice. 2004 came along as did Hail and I liked it. Wasn't blown away, but liked it. Then In Rainbows came and I fell in love with the music. Went back into their catalog and experienced their greatness to the extent it deserves. Till this day, In Rainbows is still my favorite and their best in my personal point of view. If I was one of these true typical 'hipsters' as the article likes to cite, then Id be bashing all their post Kid A work.
On another note, King of Limbs still has me mixed. The first half seems like MEH to me while i feel the second half could stand up to most of their best work. Anyone else feel the same?

the only thing worse than people who trot out post-Kid A Radiohead as kind of shortcut to rock depth: people who claim that Radiohead haven't released anything decent since The Bends (or Pablo Honey, if you're really hardcore).
-
Everything Radiohead has done post-Bends is certifiable bad.

Agreed. What is so interesting or original about "King of Limbs?" If it was some artist you never heard of, you'd dismiss it as self-indugent, navel-gazing crap. But since it's THE ALMIGHTY RADIOHEAD! (Bow down, please) it's so mind-blowingly genius, our poor, pathetic minds can't possibly grasp how great it is.
I can't believe no one's done a "Can you spot the difference?" between a "new" Radiohead song and some soundscape the guy from Owl City came up with. Where's Negativeland when you need them?

That is the exact same story for me with Pearl Jam. Didn't really care much until I started listening to their 2000-era live stuff, when Riot Act came out I fell in love. Started really getting into their earlier shit. Riot Act may not be their "best album" fuck that it IS their best album and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Sometimes when I'm really drunk I like to sing Riot Act songs like Cropduster, Ghost, Half Full and All or None.

Speaking of Radiohead sound alikes, its a good thing the Hollies helped them write their big hit Creep

Liam (http://www.fasterlouder.com.au/news/international/27603/Liam-Gallagher-on-Radiohead-Give-me-a-fucking-break) sounds amazingly like Brian Walalce here.
"I heard that fucking Radiohead record and I just go, ?What?!? I like to think that what we do, we do fucking well. Them writing a song about a fucking tree? Give me a fucking break! A thousand year old tree? Go fuck yourself! You?d have thought he?d have written a song about a modern tree or one that was planted last week."
It's that ageist thing. If it weren't for their differences regarding The Beatles, I'd start wondering if they were the same person.
Oh, and this is a good one too:
"Noel was acting like a fucking woman, like a bitch and I was acting like a dickhead."
You have to give him credit for calling himself out so accurately. ;D
-
i still haven't gotten a chance to hear their new music... I'm however very excited to hear the things they have created!

Radiohead, those masters of head-scratching decisions, released a "newspaper" today?though it won't be available in D.C. until tomorrow at 1 p.m. It's called The Universal Sigh, and it's a collection of odd images and abstract verse, intended to supplement the band's newest album, The King Of Limbs. The paper showed up today at various locations around the globe, and there are two spots you'll be able to find it here in D.C tomorrow. It's unclear how many copies are available, but according to the Universal Sigh's website (which seems to be having trouble handling all the traffic its receiving), those interested in the free faux tabloid should head to either the intersection of Jefferson and 7th streets NW or to Union Station. If you find one, be sure to register your impression on Twitter, as the band's website is aggregating tweets with the hashtag #TheUniversalSigh.
It looks like Thom Yorke handed out the paper personally in London today; perhaps he'll make an appearance in the states tomorrow?

So I work in a location whereby my lunch hour run takes me right past Union Station. Today, my run was wrapping up a few minutes before 1, and lo and behold, I see 50 or 60 twentysomethings looking like they just stepped out of a Details Magazine photo shoot (bad haircuts, third world labor made designer clothing) standing around posing with their Radiohead newspapers. Some of them were having their friends take their pictures. Others appeared to be alone, standing there pretending to read their newspapers, with one eye peering over the newspaper desperately hoping someone would take their picture.

picked it up tonight at best buy in gainesville (7.99!) - they had to get it out of the back as they had'nt even put any out on the floor - and wow, their cd selection is down to pretty much squat.
listened to it 2x on the bose - it's chill, somewhat funky and soulful!
phil selway is incredible.
many new deeper layers on the second listen.
looking forward to hearing it in the car and through my basement system.
-
and wow, their cd selection is down to pretty much squat.
Their CD selection couldn't be more ass backwards. They're pretty much down to kiddie stuff that's downloaded (legally and otherwise) and grown-up stuff catering to those who buy one or two CDs a year.

i didn't by the CD, i bought the digital download. i got an e-mail yesterday telling me to log in to http://kingoflimbs.com/ and voila - there was a link to DL the 2 new tracks. i would have thought that folks who bought the physical CD would have also gotten this e-mail. i'd log in to your account and check.
if you ordered it somewhere other than the band's website, you might be outta luck (not that the 2 tracks aren't floating about the interwebs...).

"They've been making the same record since 'Kid A'. But this needs to be said. I don't own any of their records, but every time I've seen them live, they've fucking blown me away. It was like, "Wow, fucking listen to that! How do you fucking make that shit come out of those speakers? But have I ever had a moment where I fucking sat down and thought, "Do you know what this calls for? This calls for 'Paranoid Android!' Get it on!" No. I've never had that moment." - Noel Gallagher.
I concur about every point. They are pretty good live.

here are the cliff notes - "i'm jealous of them. why couldn't my band have been as famous?"
-
Radiohead to play SNL on Sept 24, maybe a tour is coming? ;D
-
i think their next move will be a downloadable concert tour of cities of some kind where each individual user from said city on one night will control the songs, the order and "preset generational type" sound for the entire show, plus you can control the encore. hooray! pay plan to be discussed later. they will be accused by countless bands of ruining the concert experience and once again not playing by the rules for their own selfish needs . . . then within 6 months, everybody will be doing it.

Stephen Colbert can?t be influenced by the agendas of politicians and public officials, but if you?re a popular rock group that doesn?t easily embrace television cameras he will gladly roll over for you. On Monday Comedy Central announced that it would expand ?The Colbert Report? to an hourlong broadcast for the first time in that show?s history to present a special episode featuring Radiohead, the British rock quintet of ?OK Computer? and ?Kid A? fame, whose song ?How to Disappear Completely? could sometimes be mistaken for their press strategy. (Perhaps in an effort to be more visible, the band will also appear on Saturday?s season premiere of ?Saturday Night Live,? and will perform at Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan on Sept. 28 and 29.)
In a news release Comedy Central said that the one-hour ?Colbert Report? special would be shown next Monday, Sept. 26, and would present the band in interviews and performances of their songs from their recent album, ?The King of Limbs? (including an unreleased track called ?The Daily Mail?), along with that program?s usual mix of topical comedy segments. Mr. Colbert, who isn?t afraid to flaunt his rock-music bona fides, has used his show to feature artists like the Decemberists, LCD Soundsystem and Jack White, who appeared in multiple ?Colbert Report? segments over the summer. Mr. Colbert said in a statement, ?I look forward to meeting the Radioheads and leveraging their anti-corporate indie cred to raise brand awareness for my sponsors.?

These fuckers are playing at the Roseland September 28 and 29th. Wish it was this weekend instead, hmmmmm see if I can get a ticket ;D
-
woa - just found out i need to be in NYC on 9/28 :o
-
I think I'll try and make one of those dates if I can get a ticket, how is that place? ;D
-
I hear they might be playing FSS and they're going to charge $200 a pop. Watch out for a simultaneous hurricane/earthquake/fire/locust/electromagnetic storm.
-
^ You forgot a tornado, like the very, very tall one that I saw rolling down the beach the other day.
-
where you been jagy you been missing in action around here ;D
-
I think I'll try and make one of those dates if I can get a ticket, how is that place? ;D
roseland is HUGE - capacity = 3200. it's a long hall, so lines of sight from the back half of the cavern aren't good. either you have a good spot, or you can drink - not both. i'm relatively indifferent, verging on unimpressed, about the roseland as a concert venue. hardwood floors. weeeeeee.
-
Roseland blows but I must be there. Luckily I have jedi ticketmaster skills.
-
$65 for a ticket and add fees it's $79.75, we can have a meet up if I get tickets ;D
-
Four Tet, along with fellow producers RocketNumberNine, Falty DL, and Pearson Sound, will open both shows.
-
i've just changed my travel plans to accommodate this change of plans. i'll be in NYC on the night of the 28th ;D
i have a hotel room 10 blocks away from the roseland. anyone who sells me their other (second) ticket for the 28th has a place to stay for free.
-
I'd really like to go, but I guess I can wait.
Thom Yorke confirms Radiohead will tour in 2012 (http://www.nme.com/news/radiohead/59340)

where you been jagy you been missing in action around here ;D
Dodging hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and blizzards. With that said, I can't really complain as they've all been very kind to us. In fact, I'm in Radiohead-free territory. You know all that intense rain you got the other week? Well, we didn't get a drop. Not even one. It's been like that all summer. Even Irene went directly over us but you'd never know it once she blew by. They predict rain almost every day but it almost never happens. Will pour only several miles away but not here. Suspect we'll make up for it this extended weekend. C'est la vie.
-
we have a deal if you pay for my ticket and yours...

Radiohead performs show so secret even they didn?t know about it.
September 20, 2011
This past monday, Radiohead, well known for secret shows, had a show so well hidden from the public that the band members themselves weren?t sure it even happened. When we caught a word with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke after their super secret show Monday that was held somewhere vaguely familiar he looked confused and bewildered. ?We?re not really sure how it happened,? said Yorke, ?One minute I was eating dinner with my family and the next I was fending off rabid, yet confused, fans backstage at some church or something.? The show has been reportedly described as one of their best ever or slightly underwhelming. Yorke was sure that they played some new or fan favorite songs for hardcore fans but had a foggy memory of the whole thing. ?I think we played ?Lift? or maybe ?The Present Tense?? No! I bet we played ?I Froze Up?! Yeah, that sounds like something we?d do,? an unsure Yorke detailed. Guitarist Jonny Greenwood insisted that there was a full orchestra on hand but then retracted the statement after thinking for a moment. Radiohead are pretty sure that their live version of The King of Limbs went over swimmingly but hazily remember playing Pablo Honey in full.
We?ll have more on this story once someone remembers something.

Brian
well we know that's a lie - there's no way you actually paid for a radiohead album, let alone the deluxe version.
but yes, through radiohead.com (WASTE). and no, no heads-up. only TRUE FANS(tm) in-the-know got tickets. and fatskippy :P
-
I didn't get a ticket for Thursday. I kept getting no tickets in basket error. Oh... fatskippy? Are you going to use that extra? I'm going to try on ticketmaster on Monday but eh this looks like it's going to be impossible to get ;D
-
Ok, good luck all you fuckers on getting tickets this morning. Remember me if you get an extra for Thursday and I don't ;D
-
i won't be playing that game - someone has hooked me up with a presale ticket ;D
early entry ftw!

Got 2 for Thursday without much trouble. The initial order crashed at the final step of checkout, but managed to pull a second one that then went through. Yay.

Ok guys I got on at 10 on two computers. My laptop and another computer. My laptop with firefox was already in line and in sue waiting forever. The other computer said not on sale. I was able to get my ticket from the other computer finally at 10:10 ;D
-
Damn. 2 of my friends in NYC go them and a ton of us were trying. So disappointing. If anyone has a +1 on Thurs, let me know. Ill even throw in a place to crash.
-
well good job for those who got tix. They are just not worthy of my vacation hours so I had to put it back :)

finally got around to watching the band's appearance on SNL (stream at http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/september-24-alec-baldwin/1358168/). i thought it was really good, and now look forward to the NYC show even more than before. i'm not a big fan of TKOL but damn if those two songs don't sound like they're be awesome on a big sound system. yes, thom still looks like a dork. or a douche. or both. don't care ;D
colberts hour-long special tonight at 11:30.

I'll be checking out the Colbert report tonight ;D

Ok, any of you NY nut residents want to tell me what to do kill time before the show?? I'll be arriving around 11am or so Thursday ;D
-
Ok, any of you NY nut residents want to tell me what to do kill time before the show?? I'll be arriving around 11am or so Thursday ;D
things nearby: go for a walk in central park if the weather is nice. or gawk at times square - scary, but worth seeing at least once.
if you've got time, hop on the subway and check out SoHo or the west village/chelsea or hit up chinatown.
people will be lining up outside the Roseland all day. while i wouldn't suggest spending your whole day in line (NYC has way to much to offer!), getting there a little in advance and soaking up the pre-game atmosphere can be fun.
-
Roseland has horrible sightlines. Im sure by 11am people will already be in line to be towards the front. If you dont care (and a warning if youre stuck in back - it will suck - thats a guarantee - chatty people/bar, etc) - theres a really great cheap bar not too far in the Times Square area.
The Village always is a good place to kill time (east village or west village) - lots of good food, shops, etc. The Highline is really nice and theyve extended it even further down. Theres some ice cream trucks now permanently in the area - not sure what else theyve put in the area but its a gorgeous park.
Oh yeah - and Hells Kitchen is right there with lots of great restaurants. Depending on what you fancy, its pretty much all there (just head west) - away from Broadway/Times Square and 9th Avenue is
where everything is. And Jimmy's Korner is the bar, fyi. I think on 43rd (bw 6th & bway) - near Town Hall if youre familiar with where it is. The best bar if youre planning on staying in that area. I can recommend other things - I used to live a few blocks from Roseland and know HK pretty well (although its a bit more popular/trendy since I left the neighborhood).

Is it hard to maneuver your way up front?? I mean if you go in from the side isn't it possible?? I definitely will not get in line that early at the Roseland maybe around 3 or 4 or so, we'll see ;D

the roseland is approximately 6 times as large as the floor of the 930 - equivalent of 2 wide by 3 deep, by my estimate. that's a lot of bodies to get around. also, RH fans aren't particularly chill - many will be pressing forward so there won't be a ton of room to walk around, some folks won't be letting you pass by, etc... based on my 3 roseland experiences, you can definitely improve your location when you first enter but once the room fills up it's harder to move around than it is at most other venues. having a good spot and drinking during the show are mutually exclusive - making your way back from the bar (or bathroom) to center floor is difficult to impossible.
-
great, just great

As part of the "new normal" you're all going to look back on this with "Smashing Pumpkins/Zeitgeist/They're crap but no one wants to admit it" regret. If Radiohead were R.E.M., "King of Limbs" is their "Accelerate." One day soon you're going to go to a Radiohead concert and realize your just watching Emerson, Lake and Palmer with samplers.

What side are you going in from is my question? There is no side to really move up. Theres benches on one side but the problem is its not near the middle. So then you have to push your way through people. And if youve been there all night - I guarantee people are not that nice. Its a massively huge floor as sweetcell said. And its hard to get through anywhere. That place is somehow not designed for masses of people - its just too crowded and hard to move around.
Im sure you can get 'closer' to the front, but if youre not there early and want to be on the rail, its not going to happen. Also - dont expect to be able to get back to where you were if its that crowded. Drinking and having a good spot do not go well together. But you can always drink at the front bar nearish the stage and watch it moreso from the side. Not sure if they ever make that bar VIP. Id imagine the entire upstairs is going to be VIP.
If youre worried about it - head straight to Roseland and check out how the lines are. But based on friends going - I know everyone is showing up super early.

I agree up to a point.
I think you're giving them too much credit by saying that they're actually going to realize it.

I always have the notion you can maneuver your way up to the front if you go in from either right side or left instead of going right through the middle. Now Roseland is probably set up differently which I don't know but I guess I'll find out ;D

are you two so bitter about not scoring tickets that you're now turning on the band? how childish.

The irony is you'll be still be bitter and angry reading others people's latest posts of musical enjoyment that you'll forget to post an "I told you so".
Leaving you, yet again, to only find fleeting happiness through feeble attempts at disparaging remarks.
Sucks to be you.

Where to eat beforehand? Typically a long line at Totto Ramen?
-
dont know about there, aside from the last time I walked by there was a line - but a lot of us used to stop by luckys burgers after shows. on 52nd b/w 8th & 9th. Good food and reasonable.
Where to eat beforehand? Typically a long line at Totto Ramen?
-
this just popped up on atease:
Doors 6:30
DJs will be performing until 9:00 (perhaps the ones mentioned in Four Tet's tweet)
Four Tet + rocketnumbernine are on (together) from 9:00 - 9:40
Radiohead 10:00 - 12:00
The box office also said that usually set times aren't usually released until the day of the show, so these are subject to change. But I doubt it will.
-
:o
-
Can someone tell me if there is a balcony at Roseland where you could get a good spot on the railing like at the 9:30? I've tried to research it online, but haven't found anything definite on that.
Thanks.
-
AFAIK, at least part, if not all, of the balcony is reserved for VIP - it depends on the show. for 2 of the 3 roseland shows i've been to, i wasn't allowed up there but i didn't try all that hard either (maybe i asked at the wrong stairway?). if they do allow balcony access, it will be the back half of the balcony since the front part will be VIP. you'll be far from the stage.
-
Ive never seen balcony access open to the public. Most shows its VIP and sometimes it seems its not even in use. I would definitely not rely on that - youd prob be in the far back of the balcony.
-
I hope everyone that needed tickets for the shows were able to get them, without giving up the booty or paying a thousand dollars. See ya in NY ;D

Last night's show was sublime, but I won't bother you hipster-haters with the details. One detail that you might find interesting is that we got a bona fide encore. First one was planed, on the setlist, etc. Afterwards the roadies started tearing down, but after about 5 minutes of incessant cheering they were told to plug things back in. Theband had to huddle to decide what to play. We got 2 more songs ;D

You keep telling yourself that. As sublime as the Smashing Pumpkins performing "Zeitgeist" at the 9:30 club?!?!?!

"You wouldn't let us leave! We were about to leave but you love us SO MUCH! Look! We were so sweaty we didn't have any other clothing! Look! We're wearing TOUR SHIRTS! Available at the back of the hall! For $30! Sizes Med-Large-XL-XXL! Free trade, though! Pigs and alienation! No child labor!"
Wow! You mean you were such an AWESOME crowd they spontaneously threw you a bone of a semi-popular song? Lucky YOU! I'm so anxious to hear what they might do tonight I'm almost WETTING myself!
It obvious you don't know what the word "sublime" means, but I wasn't aware you didn't know what "naïve" meant either.

that ramen place was delicious, I totally recomend if you can stand the wait. In line for show not too many people yet ;D

you do know that there are giant rats the size of dogs in that town. enjoy the show. maybe you'll get lucky and they'll do a cover of "no sleep til brooklyn."
-
they didn't do no sleep even though i threw a cat on stage and said do it for walky ;D a little different set list then from night before. they did like spinning plates and super collider. hmm nothing else different, either way great show but first night set list is better i think

Hey Seth... (http://radiohead.com/tourdates/)
-
Maybe I'm ignorant to the fan base of Radiohead, but can they sell out 10k arenas in middle America?
Unless they're playing the 930 or the Fillmore, I won't be paying to see them in the Verizon Center.
-
Hey Seth... (http://radiohead.com/tourdates/)
hopefully seth is already working on this/has already worked this out.
however, i noticed that tickets to at least some of the shows are being sold by LiveNation. hopefully this doesn't mean that LN has the whole tour.

yup, they sold out bigger venues in those cities (sheds) during the In Rainbows tour. they'll sell them out again. whatever tickets locals don't buy will be snapped up by people traveling in/following the tour.

So it looks like Verizon is almost a given for the DC date? Any sort of theater gig would be a ticket buying clusterfuck, and it looks too early for MPP.
-
if i had to bet, my money would be on Verizon. it's still going to be a CF trying to get tickets. i suppose patriot center could be a possibility, but it's a lot smaller.
at first the livenation angle had me worried that it would be back at The Lube, but the dates made me back off that ledge. april is too early for sheds, right? please someone tell me they can't book JLL in april... please...
-
The 2nd US leg won't necessarily be right after those announced today. There was 2.5 months between the 2 US legs in 2008 in which they played Europe. I am hoping for Verizon over MPP or Nissan. Indoor>Outdoor
-
if a foo fighter can play there . . . i feel radiohead could sell out many multiple nights there.
-
good point, skippy.
but Indoor > Outdoor - seriously? sound is much better outdoors, sheds were designed for music vs. arenas that are sports-centered echo chambers. when it comes to large shows, i prefer outdoor venues.
however, all of RH's outdoor gigs seem to bring on the four horsemen of the apocalypse whereas their indoor shows have gone off without a hitch so you might be on to something there...

It really depends on the venue and your seats. Loge and lawn at Merriweather have terrible sound just like a bad seat at Verizon will. The lights are better indoors and it really just comes down to personal preference. Plus you can usually take public transportation to arenas whereas amps are often located in bumblefuck.

I'm going to try and get tickets for Atlanta ;D
-
Waste tickets on sale now go go, I got mine for Atlanta ;D
-
houston + dallas. i did these two cities on the In Rainbows tour, and it was such an amazing solo road trip. everything about it was epic - the shows, the car ride between the cities, the people i met, the food i ate... had to do it again. so i am. i'll deal with the financial repercussions later.
-
My vote is for Merriweather.

you're rich so it shouldn't matter ;D I thought about getting a ticket for Miami too but just didn't pull the trigger. I'll think more about it and look to see if I can get a ticket saturday if do.
-
weird half an hour ago a lot of the presale tickets were sold out for some of the venues. I went back to look just now and they were still all available. So I went ahead and got Miami ;D
-
Waiting for the 2nd leg here. Austin and Denver were the only cities I'd want to visit on the 1st leg but they're during the week. The 1 Roseland show I got to see should hold me over until they play closer cities.
-
you know we're all going to hell when fatskippy is the voice of reason.
-
i'm waiting for james's reaction to all this . . . seeing how he basically blew his stack at me for living some supposed "high life" because i bought tickets to one concert in 2012.

I'm going to move this to the front few pages for efficiency purposes....

They're nice, simple songs, methinks. Eagerly await the rest but damn if I'l drop $20 on WAV files tonight. I'll wait until June. And give it a full listen while I'm waiting.
