got shut out, but luckily they're about to announce another show on the 18th. between the fanclub presale and public onsale, i have two more chances to not get tickets!
and remember, i admit to liking all sorts of music that hipsterdom has long since declared to be crap. i'm quite comfortable with my wide musical tastes, which happen to incorporate some mainstream punk-pop (among other forms of crap :))

For you people who go to NY shows, what's the cheapest/best way of getting there?
I'm finding round trip Greyhound fares around $58 from Richmond, and $44 from DC. Is this the best way to go?

yeah it's true those megabus and bolt buses are dirt cheap. I haven't used them yet but just don't understand how they can be so cheap. How they make money?

they don't sell all seats at $1....So, what you're saying is, buy tickets way in advance?
once they are gone, it goes up to $8, $10, $15, then $20...yeah it's true those megabus and bolt buses are dirt cheap. I haven't used them yet but just don't understand how they can be so cheap. How they make money?

great announcement! too bad it's the monday & tuesday before thanksgiving, that might complicated matters a bit for me in terms of travel. maybe seth will bring them to town?!?
so you're admitting that royksopp is a natural DC show?Of course. Those New York bastards wouldn't be able to book such a show without DC residents propping up their non-existant music scene.

sounds like what the did at the Metro in Chicago which was an awesome show ;D
We received an urgent missive from the boys at the Decemberists SubTerra Campaign Organizational Front (DSCOF) the other day, bringing to our attention that a glaring hole had appeared between the first and the third days of the "A Short Fazed Hovel" Tour 2009, Phase 3. Apparently we had booked a show that day on a scarcely populated atoll off the coast of northern Maine which had succumbed to a mysterious sneaker tsunami and had vanished into the Atlantic ocean, its population of hypersensitive palette-enhanced pygmies disappearing entirely with only a crate of artisanal cottage cheese remaining as a testament to their ancient society.
We decided, in honor of the victims, that we'd play a show in New York City at Terminal 5 on that day, the 19th of September. But we thought we'd try to make it interesting: in homage to that totally awesome scene in Dragon Slayer, we Decemberists will perform a set that will be entirely left to the hands of fate -- we will draw songs from a lottery and dutifully play them, regardless of their quality or presence in our memory. Decemberists songs, naturally, but you do never know what bizarre cover songs or strange commands may end up in the pile.

Id say either 11pm or midnight. Depends on if theres an opener or not (and Id assume there is one) and hoping SFA plays for 2 hours :) ..... cant recall how long their last shows in NYC were, but it seemed they played for quite awhile. Doors @ 7pm and Show @ 9pm. You can also do dinner there - they have tables all around the stage and upstairs with great views of the stage.
Sounds like a great venue. I'm bummed they haven't sold out such a small club, but what can you do?
I've been checking any details on an opener yet, but nothing is confirmed yet. I'd be very OK with no opener, and a marathon SFA set.
any shows worth seeing on wednesday night 8-26?

Im not sure that this was already posted, but this should be awesome (From The National email). And theres also an artist's talk before the show with Aaron & Bryce and the artist as well (only one date for that 10/31 before that show).
Hi everyone! We wanted to let you know that tickets have gone on-sale today for the "The Long Count" at Brooklyn Academy of Music on October 28th, 30th and 31st. The Long Count is a collaboration between Aaron and Bryce Dessner and the artist Matthew Ritchie. The 70-minute piece features an animated film by Ritchie, a 14 piece ensemble and songs developed with Matt Berninger, Kim & Kelley Deal (Pixies/ Breeders) and Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond). The piece is loosely based on the Mayan creation myth Popol Vuh which features twin brothers. We hope you'll come check it out! You can find information and tickets here:

BAND TO RELEASE SILENT RECORD
SINCE BANDS CAN NO LONGER SELL AUDIO, FF DECLINE TO PROVIDE IT.
Because file-sharing, or downloading, or whatever, has notoriously, or supposedly, made the production of the conventional ?with-audio? record obsolete, the Fiery Furnaces will release a Silent Record.
The Fiery Furnaces? next album will consist of instruction, conventional music notation, graphic music notation, reports and illustrations of previous hypothetical performances, reports and illustrations of hypothetical performances previous to the formation of their hypotheses, guidelines for the fabrication of semi-automatic machine rock, memoranda to the nonexistent Central Committee of the Fiery-Furnaces-in-Exile concerning the non-creation of situations, Relevant to Progressive Rock Division, conceptual constellations on a so-to-speak black cloth firmament, and other items that have nothing to do with the price of eggs, or milk, or whatever the proverbial expression ceased to be.
In other words, a Silent Record. You will note that there have been countless Anticipatory Plagiarisms of this endeavor. For instance, more than a millennium of sheet music. We hope to have learned from their numerous mistakes.
Upon release of the record, the band will organize a series of Fan-Band concerts, in which groups of perfectly ordinary Fiery Furnaces? fans will perform, interpret, contradict, ignore, and so on, the compositions that make up Silent Record. Write to thefieryfurnacesemail@gmail.com to nominate your post office break room, truck stop parking lot, municipal arts center, local tavern, or what-its-name to host one of these ?happenings?. By ?happenings? I mean, what will be in the future, perfectly normal rock shows. And propose yourself for Fan Band participation.
No experience necessary.

while T5 isn't a venue i would seek out, i've never had a horrible experience there either - vs. RnR Hotel or every House of Blues that i've ever been to. it's big, it's cold, it's modern and lacking in character (other than that of "mega-club"), but the sound is above average, there's a rooftop open-air patio, and if you get there early there are some excellent sight-lines to be had from the first balcony. yes, it's overly polished and you feel like there should be more models around than there actually are... but at least it's not a sh*t-hole with bad sound.
i wouldn't recommend it as a venue, but i wouldn't skip a great line-up just because of it.

Guessing this is a live set? It's not labeled with (DJ set).
with that many dates, and that many locations, i don't think this will be the full production with a full band. i'd expect it to be raja on flute and simon on synths & computers doing the "live remix" thing (i'd be happy to be proven wrong, maybe NYC will be spoiled).
@therealshpongle Simon! Can you please tell us: are any of your US dates with a live band? Your MySpace lists some as DJ sets but not all!

What venues would they play if it happened?
In DC, it would be the new U Street Musical Hall. Chapterhouse would sell out the Velvet Lounge easily.
In Philly, it will be either the Blockley Pourhouse (650 cap) or M Room (300 cap).
The agent is asking a little more than I am comfortable offering, so I hope he bends. I doubt he'll get better offers elsewhere, though I could be wrong.

bookerT, did you see this anywhere else other than BV? looks like the show has been taken off of TM.

In addition to saying an announcement was imminent, it also said this will be the only US "Ladies and Gentlemen show". I'm, like, so there.According to a post on the 3rd in the news section of their site the show is definitely happening and an announcement regarding it is "imminent".spiritualized - "ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space"

edit: getting slightly better performance at http://www.livestream.com/spin25 - still not awesome, tho. i'm sure lots of people are ripping the stream right now, i'll have to hunt it down tomorrow. this is so tease.
Jacknife Lee (U2, R.E.M., Bloc Party),
Wow, he's in three semi-famous bands, and I've never even heard of him.
Have you?
Jacknife Lee (U2, R.E.M., Bloc Party),
Ah ok. Wow, only NYC, LA, and SF. Come on, UNKLE are more popular than that!I would've thought so too... but I remember when I did the opening set for their D.C. appearance at Club Five in Nov. 2004, James Lavelle said that the turnout had varied widely among different shows on that tour. So maybe some markets are better bets than others.

A Place to Bury Strangers will be performing with Chapterhouse this Monday October 4 at Le Poisson Rouge. Its a really great bill:

Has this been mentioned elsewhere? Maybe THIS will be the Holy Grail epic set everyone's been hoping for. Does anyone remember when they played the Apollo Theatre in Harlem New Year's 2001/2002 with The Strokes? They switched off, Strokes played three songs, then GBV played 5 or 6, then the Strokes. etc. Like a smoke-filled, hipster T.A.M.I. show.

....NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS - LCD SOUNDSYSTEM LAST EVER SHOW AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN ON APRIL 2ND NYC. BRING YOUR DANCING SHOES!!!!
GENERAL ONSALE FEBRUARY 11TH AT BOWERY PRESENTS.COM AND TICKETMASTER.COM
CHECK LCD WEBSITE AND PITCHFORK FOR FAN PRE-SALE MID WEEK, DETAILS POSTED ON TUESDAY 8TH.
They are not...James Murphy is just an attention whore like MIA. They will do a "reunion" gig/tour in a year.
take your hate elsewhere.
from pitchfork:
Murphy has also mentioned how dedicating himself to the band full-time has prevented him from taking advantage of other opportunities. In December, he told Spin, "There are other things I haven't been able to do because of it. Twice, I couldn't make an Arcade Fire record. I couldn't make a Spoon record. I couldn't work with John Cale or Devo. The plan was for this band to be part of my life, then it started to be the whole of my life."
For the NYC based 930 Bbbers:
Might be up at Terminal 5 to see Josh Ritter on Saturday since I've been shoite outta luck trying to get a ticket for the show here. (if you know anyone with an extra ticket for the dc show have them PM me!)
Not been to Terminal 5 before, I know its like triple the size of the 930, correct? How's the sound? Do shows typically start on time? Anything I should know about the venue?
Only have done the smaller NYC venues-much smaller, like Joe's Pub, with the exception of MSG.
Lily - a picture from Terminal 5 at the chromeo show.
Just out of curiosity - but did anyone get LCD SS tix??

tried. failed. nuthin'. i didn't get drop-downs until 11:06, and then got "sold out" on my first pull (i selected 2 tickets, "best available"). i've read the DFA msg board that this was the standard experience (http://forums.dfarecords.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=56834), although a few. i feel a lawsuit coming on...
i'm inclined to think that scalper-bots blocked TM long enough for them to scoop everything up.
however, as one person has pointed out, it is possible that tickets never went on sale today. someone pointed out that if scalpers had in fact seized all the tickets, one would have expected a huge influx of tickets available on stubhub, ebay, etc... yet there hasn't been one. also, apparently some other high-demand shows that went on sale at the same time showed onsale irregularities as well. so maybe there was a technical eff-up and the tickets were never on sale in the first place.
the other option that being floated is that most tickets were allocated to the presales, thus very little was left for today's general onsale.
james murphy is looking in to it. according to his twitter, he's contacted TM and will share anything he learns.
I am kicking myself. Pulled one in section 93 in the presale and I turned it down. GAH!

Seriously, this sucks. I figured it'd be easy to pull GA or floor in the main sale, but this was a catastrophe.
Was there a limit of any sort? If there was, can't just they void all the "customers'" orders that went over the limit and put those tix back up?
when do the t5 tickets go on sale

OK, so who's up for a commando run to Philly? Up and back the same day/night. I'll drive. Electric Factory is a pretty decent venue.

Rated R reissue already came out. S/T reissue comes out next month. Or this month. Sometime soon.
And Rated R would be a bit hard to pull off with just Josh. I love Josh's singing, but I certainly don't want anyone but Lanegan touching In The Fade.

if i was in to the strokes, i'd say "awesome! i'll be in NYC for LCDSS the next night so i'll just double up!". alas, i'm not. they're awright, have some good songs, but i seemed to have missed the bit where they became "important".
how did you get tickets for lcd?? I tried right at 11 for the regular sale but no dice. I heard a lot of people with success if they used the american express pull down screen. I should have done that but I was sick that day and after a few tries I was like screw it ;D

dear summer of 2k12,
on june 22 & 23 we invite you to participate in our open gathering: a two day celebration of fmly and frnds representing a global community of makers, prosumers, visual/auditory/spatial artists, activists/hacktivists, theorists, writers, cyclists, environmentally conscious foodies, and like minded social do-gooders. over the last three years our festival has carried on a winter fling with california, but as saucy as the relationship is going you can't imagine how excited we are to spend some quality time with you heartthrobs on the east coast.
fmly fest is a d.i.t. (do it together) music and arts festival, as in we accomplish nothing if we do not take strides for positive transformation together. this is an open call for all zinesters, screen printers, wall doodlers, public space connoisseurs, pillow fort enthusiasts, bedroom recorders, scenic appreciators, urban dissenters, airwave hackers, subway singers, angsty latte flippers, kids who dance their heart out at every show, rap battles, round robins, aerialists, and new friends to come together and create this gorgeous reflection of our community we've all been feeling.

Great question.
MBV is near the top of my list of bands I have enjoyed for a long, long time but have never seen.
I like shoegaze. But I don't listen to it a ton and will admit I'm far from up to speed on bands that may come into town. But I'm all ears. Who would you suggest?
killsaly- i'll stick with popular shoegaze....I know u hate popular shoegaze. stay underground, buddy!I NEVER said I didnt like POPULAR or ANY kind of shoegaze. I was ASKING about peoples' love for MBV while at the same time the shoegaze shows in DC are almost ALWAYS empty. I think MBV is alright. I dig Ride. I LOVE Lush and Curve. ETC. I dig a ton of old "POPULAR" stuff, but that wasnt the point of my list. My list was for more CURRENT shoegaze bands, ones that were touring and making music in the 2000's. It wasnt a list of ALL shoegaze.

No need to refresh your browser- this is not an editing error or a dream-like illusion of your feminist imagination. Musical heroines Pussy Riot will perform in Amnesty International's Bringing Human Rights Home concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on February 5.
Gather yourself.
"We are happy to support Amnesty International's work on behalf of human rights and political prisoners," said Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina, the two members of Pussy Riot that were recently released after serving 21 months in prison.
"We, more than anyone, understand how important Amnesty's work is in connecting activists to prisoners. A month ago, we were freed from Russian prison camps. We will never forget what it's like to be in prison after a political conviction. We have vowed to continue helping those who remained behind bars and we hope to see you all at the Amnesty International concert on February 5th in Brooklyn!"
If that's not a sign from the Goddess I don't know what is.
For more info on this sure-to-be-unforgettable concert, check out Amnesty's page and pick up your tickets at Ticketmaster right now!

i could see myself having a lot of fun at this... not mind-blowing, but i certainly this was happening here in DC.
I like one artist on that list.

i like the concept of midget security guards..every venue should have them.. not that threatening and don't block the sight lines when they're moving around..

I did go to a great party in NYC in the 90s and they had midget bartenders who walked on the bar to serve drinks...it was awesome

I went to a hockey and basketball game there the end of January and I was stunned the things people were trying to bring in in front of me. Can confirm a briefcase.
so are people bringing a lot of briefcases to shows at MSG ?!

Didn't try, but ticketbastard has got a great scam now
Log in and get good tix...the TM charges you like $25 fee for just clicking and processing your credit card (yes it's a little more complex...but Amazon doesn't charge me $25 a purchase)
Then while tickets are still onsale to the public you can just turn around a "Resell" it
so you get good seat, just bump the price up $50
and TM get's another $25
Lame IMO...I know this is a tired argument, but I think this is a new twist
Luckily IMP rarely uses TicketBastard, but that just annoys the shit out of me
^^ That's EXTREMELY tempting.

Thanks, dear. Probably won't see anything, as the whole family will be in tow and we're all a bit sick but it's NYC and we haven't been in 2.5 or 3.5 years and can't bear to be near DC this weekend so we'll go anyway.

Well it’s an album I adore and was hoping to see them plus Ride Nowhere but NYC on a Monday or Tuesday is probably not happening
I can’t believe nobody was willing to promote a DC or Philly show but can’t say I am shocked about DC… whoever is booking for IMP - and there are multiple people- have learned these oldster shows don’t sell… so we were down to the Fillmore and they didn’t go for it probably cause Suede/Manic Street didn’t do well enough
At least that’s my Monday morning booker take…probably all wrong

^^ Literally the worst concert I’ve ever seen and that’s a list that includes William Hung, Kevin Federline, and Filter, 16-ish hours before two members reentered rehab.
Bro, these people on here sent me to a Gwar festival once. The things I will do for the joke of it would stagger you and should probably get me to go into therapy.^^ Literally the worst concert I’ve ever seen and that’s a list that includes William Hung, Kevin Federline, and Filter, 16-ish hours before two members reentered rehab.
Seeing Hung and Federline in a single lifetime would be enough to turn me off from music forever. How are you even still alive?

these guys are so good. i didn't share a top-albums-of-the-year list, but if i did their Take Me Back to Eden would be right at the top. not sure how to categorize these guys (alt metal? progressive metal? symphonic metal? indie (hard) rock? indie metal? post-rock? post-metal??) but they're probably my top new back of 2023. i was bummed that i had to miss their seattle show back in september, but i guess a cousin's wedding needs to come first grumble grumble...
