Hot off the heels of the very-good Honey Locust Honky Tonk, he's pulled a Robert Pollard and announced six forthcoming releases with his various projects, all slated for the next few months. There'll be two solo 7"s, a solo LP, a couple Circus Devils LPs, and, finally, another new Guided By Voices LP. Although listening to every Pollard release became an impossible (and largely unnecessary) task over a decade ago, everything he touches still manages to turn at least partially to gold. The total population of the other 11 countries on that list is about the same as the population of the United States (actually, slightly less). Those 11 countries have 18 rampage shooting listed. The US has 38. So yes, the US wins. But with nearly half the amount, it's not like rampage killing is nonexistent in the rest of the Western world.

The plan is this (and it's been going on for a while): The record companies are going to renegotiate their deals with the streaming companies (most current deals are about 3 years) and the record company revenues are going to increase in the future. By doing deals like this, they're hedging that by owning both the label and the artists' rights, they'll be able to turn profits by buying cheap "popular" assets that will be played over and over again.
I don't agree with it, but that's the theory.
